France was overrun just like Poland, The Netherlands, and Belgium. Yet nobody jokes about them. The British Army was even there fighting along with the French military, together they couldn't stop the German Army. Even Russia was knocked back on it's heels saved only by the fact that their country was so vast and had a population so large that the German wave eventually spent itself in futility.
I was reading this and just waiting for the "until the US bailed everyone out".
In actual fact the estimated French death toll was closer to 600'000, the British 388'000, the U.S 400'000, which in actual fact pales woefully into insignificance against the Polish deaths of 5.8 million, the Chinese deaths of 10 million, and most shockingly the Soviet deaths of 20 million.
The germans lost 4.8 million, and the Japanes 2.35 million, the total 48 million 238 thousand 700 lives were estimated lost in WW2
Numbers just to gigantic, and completely humbling to comprehend
