Best Ever, so I was told by Chef Don
« on: May 13, 2010, 07:22:36 PM »

My Mom's boyfriend, a 30 year chef, said they were the best apple dumplings he ever ate.

I just think they are beautiful.

Man law - grilling recipes are acceptable talk among men...baking recipes - like crying while watching The Notebook with your buddies.

Cut me some slack, I worked in a bakery for over 13 years.

O'Club?  I was thinking this was the Ghey'Club!

On a serious note, I'm seriously hungry right now for some reason.  And I seriously want that recipe, even if it does make me look seriously ghey.  Seriously!

I cook a lot and almost never follow recipes, nor do I write down my creations.  I've made some amazing stuff so perhaps I should, but I like the experience of things being a little different each time.  A couple of weeks ago I made a Mexican baked lasagna that was to die for!

If you had shared with the rest of us, we could have ignored the man law...  :D  Now we all have to go hunt down a donut or something.

Those do look good though...no chance you're going to post the recipe I suppose?

Here ya go! I followed almost to the letter. Except I didn't have any nutmeg.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/old-fashioned-apple-dumplings/detail.aspx

Notice my Apple Dumplings look almost identical to theirs.

I also didn't use the dough. Instead I used this pie dough recipe.

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/No-Fail-Pie-Crust-I/Detail.aspx

That vinegar has a strong smell even after cooling the pie dough. However, once baked you would never know you had vinegar in it. I believe it adds to flakiness of the crust.
