Once again "Host Connection Lost"
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:26:31 PM »
My Internet had been doing fine for about a month since my last post about this. A couple days ago, my internet began slowing down... Quite substantially. We have hooked up another computer to our wireless connection, but it is idle and not using the internet. Internet Explorer will not open some sites that it used to have no problems with, and now I get booted rather quickly (within 5 minutes of getting on). I have a ping-plotter. Sorry about bringing this up again but I really don't know... could it be a bad router? Thanks in advance <S>

You're getting 3% packet loss TO YOUR ROUTER (192.168.0.1 is your router) so it is quite possible that your router is going bad.  I don't think this is an ISP issue.  Try unplugging it for several hours to give it time to discharge (overnight would work) then plug it back in.. sometimes rebooting like that can fix this sort of thing.

It's also possible that you have a network card or cable issue, although Windows will often tell you 'network disconnected' or the like if this is the case.... or if you are using wireless (Skuzzy will say 'all bets are off') something may be interfering with your signal.. possibly a cell phone, cordless phone, neighbor's ham radio, can opener, high tide, German UFOs, static discharge from your underwear due to new laundry detergent (just kidding, but you get the point).

If you ARE using wireless, try running a network cable from your computer to your router and disabling the wireless and see if it improves.  If this isn't an option, you can try moving your router to different locations (a few feet can sometimes make all the difference)... maybe you'll get lucky and find a place that works that isn't too horribly inconvenient.

I think your router idea may be the best bet. When Internet Explorer acts up, I have to unplug the router for ten seconds (although I usually try for more like a minute or so), and then internet pops up as fast as ever. But as soon as my computer goes into sleep mode, my computer has a problem trying to find the secured signal and may say "CONNECTED WITH LIMITED ACCESS." I don't know if this is relevant at all, though.

On the "sleep mode".  Windows Vista and Windows 7 both have a lot of problems with that "feature".  Disable it.

Thanks, guys, I tried letting the router rest for about an hour and I played the game without a single skip or lag. Ty Tigger, thanks guys. <S>
