sound vs. distance
« on: May 13, 2010, 10:23:32 AM »
Since the patch the relationship between distance and the volume of sounds has disappeared for me.

In other words a tank 2k distant is as loud as one sitting right next to me.

Also the sound does not fade to zero as the target moves away, it goes from loud to nothing.

Also, on my machine (Realtek onboard sound) the user volume controls are very coarsely quantized.  Volume in game is not even deterministic: eg driving a tank sometimes my own engine is loud, sometimes it is silent, with no change in volume setting.  (On my machine I have the volumes, both overall and sound specific, set pretty low and that accentuates the coarseness of the settings.)

Noticed that plane engine sound is initially loud and centered until you go into a dive when the wind sound kicks in. Then engine gets quieter and moves along with the wind sound to the side speakers on my 5.1 system.
