Iwo Jima, no easy days on the line
« on: May 14, 2010, 10:37:23 AM »
I dont know if any have run across this, link was sent to me by a fellow vette enthusiast/airplane nut.

Very gritty look at a typical hard day on the line at Iwo, 1944-45.
You can almost feel the heat from that burning B-29.

Very Amazing!   :aok

I never realized how many aircraft crashed on Iwo Jima.  They seem to have a nack for taking out several others as they do on those packed airstrips.

Thanks for posting!

Small island, - lots of aircraft.
BTW, that is why IWO was so important. While the losses of lives there were appalling, there was some gain too. After all it helped ending the war, and served well for emergencies.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
