WWI No-mans land
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:10:00 AM »
I would love to see some eye candy in no-mans land.  It would add a ton to the game.  Maybe a little smoke coming from the trenches, a few broke down tanks, infantry scattered about. impact craters, a few random explosions.  It seems a little dull as it is now.

Althought it would be pretty cool, IMO I think it would hurt frames a little bit.

But I wouldn't no.     :salute

Unless you can interact with the objects, probably not IMO.  If you can, then a massive yes :)
Afk for a year or so.  The name of a gun turret in game.  Falanx, huh?
Apparently I'm in the 20th FG 'Loco Busters', or so the legend goes.

For all the hollering for a WW1 arena, it got quiet in a big hurry.

That's because there is currently no WWI game :)

It's time to add Mustard Gas droppers, Mark IV's and Lanchester's!  You have to gas the trenches around the town before troops can get in.  Of course we would have to significantly cut down the effective time of the mustard gas from days to minutes, but nonetheless....With such a setup, we would still have no need for bombs!!!  (One step at a time so to speak, even)  Good idea Miska!

That's because there is currently no WWI game :)

At some point you have to stop catering to people expecting to play a game made in 2010 on their 2002 vintage computer..

If terrain makers could get a thumbs up from HTC regarding the use of custom objects and tiles in terrains for the WWI arena, I'm sure Ranger would be the first to dazzle your eyes with no-man's land.

That is certainly true to a large extent and perfectly predictable.  WWI will always draw a much smaller crowd than WWII.

Unfortunately, after the new wore off, there wasn’t enough of an underlying arena to develop its own viable player base.  What you have are 4 nicely modeled WWI aircraft hosted in a pretty uninspiring H2H server with no purpose or structure.

I guarantee you, if the WWII arena was reconfigured similarly, the players would find it equally uninspiring.  4 planes.  Effectively 2 fields.  A single furball.  No strat.  No goal.  No purpose.  If none of that is necessary, then take it out of the WWII arena.  If it is necessary, why would one expect the WWI to be successful in comparison without it?  I truly think it has more to do with that than the genre of aircraft.  Given the depth and level of game-play users have come to expect from the WWII MA, the flat, pointless game-play of the WWI arena was destined to fail.

I hope in time we get a WWI arena that is given the same depth of game-play that can be found in the WWII MA.  Otherwise, it is just being smothered in the the crib.

Wab

WW1 has been out for awhile now & they have yet to release a new TE version containing the WW1 airfields.  I've already made my own, but I need the WW1 tower or they'd probably never accept it.  Still waitin'.
