DVD/CD rom
« on: May 17, 2010, 11:16:35 PM »
A long time ago...maybe 2 years I bought a web cam off trade me (online auction in NZ) it came with a disc that was all in chinese/japanese...in any case I bumbled my way through and installed this thing.. Now some time later I decided I didn't like it and removed it.when I did this I lost my DVD rom(My Computer)....It was gone for about 2 months then ...hello there it is again oneday....it stayed for about two weeks and disappeared again.... now this was over 18mths ago now and I have removed it replaced and still no go...I put it into another pc and it was found and worked...

So now to my question. Is there something that may have been corrupted/turned off for this not to register when removing and reinstalling.I have done a new hardware search but it still comes up blank...probably just a busted MoBo.. I have no real need for it as I just find the software I need online but would be nice to put it back in for when I do want it..

Ahh the joys of computers.

Did you check to see if it was listed in the device manager?

We're not asking you to change anything. Simply look into the boot order to see if the CD drive is listed.

as Denholm posted , you are just looking

if it is not listed along with your other Hard Drives, CD /DVD rom devices, Floppy Drive , etc.....

then you can go to each channel and click on the auto/auto device recognize-find key ( this is named differently for different motherboards )

if it does not find it, it might be possible that your IDE ribbon cable has become broken inside it ( a common thing that happens with old IDE ribbon cables ) short of that.... the IDE Channel it is on may be going faulty on you......

just some suggestions........ best of luck to ya
