Where the Spit IX, VIII and XVI easily transition from stall fighting to E fighting the XIV does not. It's strictly an E fighter and therefore you'll want to keep the speed up and maintain energy. While, like the IX, the XIV is best suited to higher alt work it can run down some of the fastest planes in the game (P-51D, 190D-9, etc.) on the deck with only a small (say a couple of K) alt advantage at icon range.
Like the IX, the XIV has a dead spot in engine performance from 20-23K (17-20K in the IX) but comes alive once the dead zone is past.
If you do feel the need to get down and dirty in it near the deck be aware that it's more like flying a poorer turning XVI with a more pronounced stall. That said, the engine has a lot more power and in some ways compares to the other Spits the way the K4 compares to the other 109's. That extra engine power helps the XIV to both accelerate faster and improves initial climb rates from low speed fights over the VIII and XVI but if you don't use that small advatage early or at the right time, once up to speed, the VIII or XVI will perform as well.
While you can play BnZ with the XIV as well as you can with the other Spit's it's no better at it, and maybe worse, because you can build too much speed too easily in the XIV and easily tear the wings off, particularily when pulling out of a dive. Be careful, use your throttle and watch your speed... 480ish is about tops as it is with the other Spits.
