bomb wishes
« on: May 20, 2010, 10:09:09 AM »
What are the chances to have bombs with delay fuse?

What are the chances to have bombs in the 262's?

This convination would make a brand new way to capture bases, 262's low on the deck with delay fuse on the bombs ... just to give an exmaple ... or a new way to sink cvs ...

Only 1 detail, if you ever consider the chance to use delay fuse, give it a long range time, like 45 seconds or more, in warbirds they have a 5 seconds delay fuse. Lot of players were hate becouse they use to drop the bomb NOE and get a con on their 6, but above 15 seconds (apparently) was very hard to get a con that way. 45 seconds or above i guess it would be extremly hard ....

Just a wish ...

I know it had rockets, not ours, but one of them, so it isn't a far stretch. But as far as speeding on the deck at jet speed goes, the 234 already fills that roll doesn't it?

As picture shows, yup 2 X 500 kg bombx if my memory serves me right ...

The 234 fills that roll, but with out fuse its kind of useless, you can't drop NOE. The bombs must travel for 1000 feets before becoming armed

At 500mph the bombs will travel for 1000ft if dropped from 100ft in altitude.  Maybe even if dropped from 50ft.

'Course you're likely to blow yourself up too, but can't have everything. :p

Mosquitos often used bombs with a delay to avoid blowing themselves up.

The bombs would add weight to the 262, and slow it down to where nme prop planes could catch it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Hitler actually order the Me-262 for bombing roles first before it was used in an A2A role?

I have posted the wish for time delay on bombs too. I keep getting the same thing, that it needs to travel 1000 ft to arm. I have done some research and there were many fuses available for GP bombs. The fuse works on revolutions to arm the bomb. I also suggested para-bombs which were used often in the pacific. The fuse and fins were all added to the bomb according to the mission altitude and type of target. Larger fins were used for lower altitudes, smaller fins for higher alt and so on. the fuse was chosen the same way.

He never changed his mind until the Me 262 became a successful fighter behind his back... even then, ridiculous conditions came along with authorised production of the Me 262A-1a fighter... including production quotas of the Me 262A-2 bomber.

The version of the Me 262 we have carried R4M air-to-air rockets, even as a norm...

Really? Could of swore it was a different model which would of been an understandable reason for not having them. Surprised we didn't see them with the remodel then.

dont be so doubtful  :aok  And I recall reading somewhere they attempted mounting, I think, a 57mm cannon in the nose, stuck out some 7 feet though and had to have a counter balance in the tail... I'm trying to source that now.... but it was never operational in the sense that the 262 was.
