GV Loadouts
« on: May 21, 2010, 01:29:47 PM »
I know its been wished for before but......

I wish for custom loadouts for GV's. Now if i want to go to a V-base and de-ack it I'm forced to bring allot of HE rounds with the current loadouts.
I would like to be able to bring how ever many HE rounds i want (say load up 3 - 5 for a V-base) and let the rest of them be AP rounds.

Just the opposite could be used for taking down a town. I'd like to be able to bring 5 - 10 AP's and the rest of them be HE's.

This would also be great for the T-34's so we would be able to bring more than 25 HVAP's as we are limted to with the current loadouts.

This I know:

HVAP and the other "high velocity armor piercing" ammo were not as abundant nor cost efficient as the regular AP ammo.  The HVAP rounds were issued sparingly.

The ammo loads you are seeing, Im guessing are historically accurate to a certain degree.  If we ever do get a designated tank destroyer like the M10, M18, Hetzer, or Jagdpanzer, take note that those carried very few, if any HE rounds and thus will probably have very few HE rounds in the game if HTC holds true to the TD design and role.

I'm not 100% sure this is acurate.  Tank destroyers were used as stand off bunker busters as much as tank vs. tank.

Would AP or HE be better for this?

From the old RTS/RTT game "Close Combat" by Atomic Games, I remember the M10 and other TD's running out of HE very quickly when using the TD for something other than attacking armor (Atomic touted the game's accuracy).  I do not remember the ratio of HE to AP ammo those TD's had, but it was no where near the ratio the regular tanks were issued.

Of course when able and not in danger of enemy infantry the TD's were going to lend a hand in any manner they were able.  That could be via long range .50 cal MG fire for suppression purposes, or perhaps bunker bustin' (AP vs concrete and HE vs earth/wood) with the main gun, etc.

I think at most, if at all, the TD's carried 6-10 rounds of HE.  Dont quote me though.  I'll dig for more info.
