Entry level Professonal Flash Memory Camcorder

I am thinking about (after a good bit of research) a Sony HDR-AX2000 AVCHD. For those that know.....what do you think?

I am by no means a pro videographer but am lucky enough to have the resources to buy this level piece of equipment and need reassurance that I am making the best  move.

Just curious... what is it you find about that one that the Sony HVR-V1U 3-CMOS 1080i doesnt offer? Thats the one I have been considering for our trip to Europe.

Basically one is tapeless and the other is not plus a few other things, Sensor size etc. I prefer tapeless.

I think you should wait for this:





35mm sensor, A-mount camcorder.  
Rumored to be released late 2010, early 2011.

With that big 35mm sensor, and hundreds (possibly thousands if you count third party) of great A-mount lenses available, and well under $10k, it's gonna create a whole new class.  Panasonic has also announced a similar one, and I'm sure Canon can't be to far behind.     Price point rumored to be around $5K plus another $600-1k+ for a good standard lens.  Relatively expensive, but with that big sensor and f1.4 aperture lenses available, it's gonna be a killer in resolution, low light capability, and especially super shallow DOF control, compared to any current prosumer camcorder.

Probably outside your budget I know, just thought I throw it out there.

Good points BUT I was told the sensor size in this case makes no discernible difference nad since the camera can record direct to hard drive... I dont see a difference except the one includes a shotgun microphone.

@Heater - Primarily I will be visiting France (Paris Cappy Corbie Bertangles-Poulainville) and Belgium (Brussels) and Germany (Frankfurt Weisbaden Bruchsal) and Switzerland (Bern). After I get to Bruchsal I will know more about how much free time I have but otherwise your on!

Here is a side by side, you be the judge......... one was introduced in 2006 the other 2010.....I think for the few extra Franklins??????

Your right of course (sarcasm)... longer battery life more options and the same number of pixels plus FireWire interface. In this case the sensor size makes no difference.  

You might want to check with a few Pros like Chris Marquardt (where I heard of the unit I mentioned) before you spend the bucks. The more I look at it the better it looks (the Sony HVR-V1U).
