The dog is inside the house.  Its a German Sheppard its a decent sized dog. We have a security gate on the door.  What irks me about the whole deal is before this guy started delivering we had a little old lady deliver and back then we had 2 dogs inside she would just wave as she walked by they would bark away and it wasnt an issue. Now this relitively young guy decent build is too scared? Give me a break.  In this neighborhood we have dogs that run around the neighborhood isnt he afraid of them? I mean come on common sense maybe? If he is that afraid he shouldnt be out doing that job.

Darn I really wanted to find out that the big bad postman was afraid of a chihuahua. 

That is really messed up. I assume that there have been no episodes where the dog was left out accidentally when the postman arrived. I know you said you called everyone. While on the phone did you ask them what you could do and describe to them that the dog is penned in the house by that security gate (I assume is one of those meshed steal gates that is as high as the door)?

Other than that the only thing I can suggest is what someone said earlier, try moving the mailbox away from the door. I know it is anoying that he is that much of a wimp but do really want to pay a recurring charge for a PO Box?

Fedex guy called me made me come out to the road and they weren't my dogs! My sis worked as a carrier, yes theres some dumb people out there. If the dogs in the house I don't see what the problem is ?

Yes.. The dog is completely secure inside the house there is really no excuse for it.

OK. So closing the front door would solve the problem? That would seem easier than getting a PO Box but that's up to you.

OK. So is the yard knee deep in dog poo or something? There's obviously more to the problem than what we've read here. The postal delivery person is in danger of....what? Doors are closed, windows are closed, dog inside, what's outside keeping the mailman at bay? If all this were true the mail would be delivered. There's got to be more to this story. Has the dog been a problem for the postal delivery people in the past? Do you have a history of some sort?

Go work for the post office and you'll sing a different tune.  Of all the jobs I've held that was the only .gov job and it was, by far, the hardest.  Quitting time wasn't a clock, it was when the day's mail was all delivered.

Lets see how i can put this... Our yard is fenced in but its seperate from the walkway.  He can walk up the driveway past the garage onto another cement path that is the front porch.  We have had many mail people before this guy thats never had a problem with at that time our 2 dogs since then 1 has passed.  Now this guy comes i guess he had a dog attack him once or something but it wasnt our dog we have never had an issue before.  So my deal is if he is this afraid of being out there where a dog is barking at him why is he still in that field? He should be doing an inside job then.  Our house is secure there is no way a dog can get to him and if a little old lady can do it for years and wave at 2 barking dogs what is his problem? Its pure insanity.

I would definitely call the PO again and very respectfully and politely ask what the mailman has a problem with as far as the dog and what their suggestion is as far as being able to get the mail delivered. Of course this would be after explaining everything you just did this time.

When making this next phone call be sure to speak with the postmaster and tell him the whole nine yards including the very secure security gate, the walk up to the door, and the fact that the dog is inside when the mailman arrives.

If everything you have said in here is totally true I can't really see how anyone would deny you your mail delivery, as long as you speak to the postmaster like a respectful citizen.

Yeah this makes no sense, when you called did you tell them that the dog is secured inside the house with the doors closed when he is delivering the mail, and they're still saying that you have to do something? 

I mean what kinda issue can there possibly be with the dog inside the house when the mail is being delivered?  I mean what, is he doing this to ever house that has a dog in it, that's a lot of houses on his route I'm sure, I'd be very interested to know how many houses he's refusing to deliver to.

Be careful in generalizing...I was once a government worker and very darned few in the private sector would have volunteered to do my job. But then, I suppose that's what makes Marines, Marines, and others...others.

Perhaps you need to think before you slander.
