Are not the newer computers have more process than before?  I noticed windows 7 and vista (especially vista) having a lot of processes in the background on a stock puter.

Yes, faster CPU's with slower sound chips, worse onboard video chips, low end Ethernet chips and far more processes than ever before.  It is quite easy to buy a new computer than runs worse than a 3 year old box would, even if it appears, on the surface, to have better credentials.

Great, thats what this sim needs, is a bunch of WoW and Quake nerds invading it.. PASS!

As much as we hate to admit it, it is a game. It is a game with a very strong following by a core group that are not playing it because of the cool graphics or the nifty arenas, but because of the genre it represents. This is why HTC advertises on the channels that they do. They aren't going after everyone that can by a joystick, they are going after those that can appreciate the game for what is offers outside of being the bestestist.

Bottom line is, there's always something to do.. whether or not its what you want to do is a different story.

P.S. Just an FYI, if you log in around 1:00pm edt, the caps are usually just starting to be enforced. If you give it a little bit, they even out quite quickly.

there is a secret number.........that I assume only HT knows.........which directly represents the exact amount of NEW customers that is needed...to balance out the old customers who we lose to attrition.
if that number is not met... eventually cutbacks begin.....and you know the rest of the story.  that's business.  I offered HT a great promotional tool...that's free.

I stopped reading at your "quake" comment....for obvious reasons. spare me your demographic spin.

Well the I guess some more thought should have been put into the continuous rant that you ever so annoyingly keep repeating.

Just a guess, but I think HTC has a pretty good handle on what they are & need to be doing. They've been around long enough. Although your logic is correct as far as the #s needed and so forth, so please don't think I'm knocking you for that. Hell, you came up with an idea, which is more than a lot of people choose to do. Fact of the matter is, the justin.tv thing would do just that, turn it into something HTC has done so great to avoid, i.e Quake.

Now on a side not, have you ever though, that what you are mentioning is the exact reason the "old timers" are leaving? Since this new influx of players have came in, the game as significantly changed. A lot of the vets didn't agree with them, like them, and the new players are literally killing the game in some eyes. The hoarding, hangar killing, ho'ng, the list in continuous.

So while your effort should be applauded, again I say when trying for something like this, you really need to think it through, which could be why HTC never got back to you. (That or maybe they think its just as crazy as I do?)

Just my opinion :)

reading is fundemental....I never sent the idea to HT.
your blind faith in HT in that he is "doing all the right things" is admirable...but I've yet to meet a good businessman that was closed to any new lines of thinking, pertaining to new revenue streams...for free.
as to why people are leaving...here and now...my first hunch is the economy/spendable income more than anything else.
attrition is always an issue.
this is free advertising...meaning there is nothing to lose from trying this on several cam sites.
your "new people will ruin this place" line of thinking is duly noted.

Actually if you go back through the so called "I'm leaving" posts that so many have posted, majority of it is because the game is "no longer fun anymore" for one reason or another. Now yes, you'll have those who leave because of health, financial, and god willing those who just don't want to play anymore. Most though is due to the lack of fun factor.

Bigger doesn't mean better, hell look what happened when HTC themselves did something for free.. it was exploited and eventually ruined.

"I'm leaving threads" (generally) are more of a cry for attention than anything esle....

and most of the customers I talk to in the game say they never post here.

I'm with Zeta on this. You leaving only affects those you fly with and your close buddies. Not much need for a public announcment.

And PK1Mw, having a large map capped at 100 isn't going to make things fun either. Honestly, I would rather have a large map stuffed with cannon fodder, than a large map full of aces who jump to whatever base is flashing, making captures very difficult, or impossible depending on what field they are at.

you (and LUTE) must not have visited the site...or you would have the answers you seek.

one can broadcast whatever they want...live action...or a recording of titanic tuesday. nobody asks for contact information. and they can set up their profile page with a link right to the Aces High website.

THE EDUCATION IS FREE TODAY, BOYS.

wait...  you just now are figuring out about web cams and WE are the ones needing an education?

you are like 10+yrs behind the internet curve (why I welcomed you to the mid 90's)

I took your idea, fleshed it out a bit, made it somewhat viable, and truth be told it still sucks.

what you fail to "get" is that HTC shoots for a particular TYPE of subscribers and their advertising is catered to that.

the type of people that sit on web cam sites all day are probably not going to subscribe to AcesHigh.

just the wrong demographic.

I've harped on my opinion of arena caps enough in the past.  They're no-good and no-fun but HTC firmly beilieves they lead to making more good and thus making more fun.

My friend took a quick trip to Vegas this weekend and I pitched in some time to babysit his almost 3-yo girl.  I got a call from him last night asking me wtf was a "weeena cap bad" and why his little girl was saying it after her brief stay at my place this weekend.  But he understood and apreciated me teaching her to bable/yell "ozzy ozzy ozzy!", next month we'll work on the "ois!".

Here's an idea.  Just for a week, have both arenas open with no caps.  Let the numbers decide.  Check the status of both arenas periodically through the day.  Those that say they hate TT due to lag have another arena to go to, all the while giving all players to choose what they prefer by the numbers displayed.  I think that that would settle arguments about this subject.  There will be those who prefer one side or the other but that way the majority can speak buy the numbers displayed rather then the posts here on the bbs.

Call it an experiment if you will, just to see.

They did that a couple of weeks ago when WW1 was released.  If anything, it seemed to me, there was the usual number in one arena and 30 people in the other arena.

Seemed like less people flying over all.

to the contrary...I DO get it.  afterall...I'm one of those types.
I don't recall saying I just found out about it....I'm saying it's something HT has perhaps never tried...and the ratio of risk to return makes it a great idea for attracting new customers...since it's free.  not a hard concept to grasp.
I think hundreds would take the two week free look...and after a year...HT may find 50 to 100 new customers because of it..who are the "type"...and say so with their continued paying membership.
I understand your negativity is based largely in a "everything is fine" mentality...but I assure you..in an economy like this.."fine" just may not be good enough.

But unlike titanic tuesday when you don't have a choice, they had a choice.  So caps in that sense did not matter.  Most people will go to the arena with the most players, imho.  But the most complaining I see of TT is due to lag.  With 2 arenas with no cap, then they have a choice.  But I'm just being a devils advocate here.  I'll still fly either way even though I would rather be one of those flying in the popular arena.

I agree with canacka. Provide an arena that runs small maps for small numbers, and an arena that runs the large maps. That way you are no longers stranding people in LWB.

That high-lighted part is actually the basis for the problem with static caps.  The player will not do what is good for the business.  The player will simply follow the numbers regardless of the damage it might actually do to the business.
