Memorial Day
« on: May 31, 2010, 08:16:40 AM »
Let this Memorial Day be one that touches all of those that serve, and have served for their countries... no matter what flag it was for.  May all of you here that enjoy flying and fighting in the machines of our forefathers here in there skies of Aces High, take a moment of silent remembrance as the engine starts to spin up on the runway.  Remember those who fought and died, those that gave everything... simply because it was their duty.  You are reliving history every time you play this game... and I am proud to be a part of a community that is so full of pride, honor, and respect for our heritage.

Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces of the sky;
Be with them traversing the air
In darkening storms or sunshine fair

Thou who dost keep with tender might
The balanced birds in all their flight
Thou of the tempered winds be near
That, having thee, they know no fear

Control their minds with instinct fit
What time, adventuring, they quit
The firm security of land;
Grant steadfast eye and skilful hand

Aloft in solitudes of space,
Uphold them with Thy saving grace.
O God, protect the men who fly
Thru lonely ways beneath the sky.

 :salute to you all.

I thought it fitting along with the Memorial Day remembrances....To you Marines and fellow Navy Alums.

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep.

Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea! Amen.

Eternal Father, lend Thy grace To
those with wings who fly thro' space,
Thro wind and storm, thro' sun and rain,
Oh bring them safely home again.

Oh Father, hear an humble prayer,
For those in peril in the air! Amen.

Oh Trinity of love and pow'r,
Our brethren shield in danger's hour,
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them where so e'er they go.

Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea! Amen.

Veterans are easy to recognize
By their special swagger
And their shattered eyes
By the way they stand so tall
When the flag is raised
And how they bow their head
When the Lord is praised.
They may have clabbered voices
And brown and mottled skin
A missing arm or leg or eye
But you can see the youth within.
What horrors did they see
What hell did they endure
To keep my flag and liberty secure?
What would our nation be like
Without veterans such as these?
Let us remember each of them
When we bow our knees
And may we give all reverence due
To the brave men and women
Who defend the Red, White and Blue.

:salute to all of those who have fought and died for our country.

How do you tell who is a veteran?

1. - They remove their hats at baseball, football games or other events when "The National Anthem Plays"

2. - They put their hand over their heart.

3. - They knows every word to the national anthem and can be seen singing with the national anthem playing.

Thanks and <S>

Good posts fellas.  Thank you.  :salute

I won't get into a long lecture here, but as someone who has carried dead buddies from the fight, Memorial Day is not about cookouts & being off work.  I do & will always remember my fallen brothers on this day.  Even if only for a moment, give them your silence and your prayers.

Both songs by Trace Adkins, I never have been able to get through either without tearing up.

As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave

They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine

As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect

I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.

Let's pass on to our children
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do

Let's not forget their families
Great pain they had to bear
Losing a son, father or husband
They need to know we still care

No matter which war was fought
On the day that they died
I stand here looking at these flags
Filled with American pride.

So as the bugler plays out Taps
With its sweet and eerie sound
Pray for these soldiers lying here
In this sacred, hallowed ground.

Take home with you a sense of pride
You were here Memorial Day.
Celebrating the way Americans should
On this solemnest of days.

<S> to all that are Serving , Past, Present and Future and those that paid the ultimate price, i can never thank you enough  :salute

<S> to those who sacrificed all they were to secure our nation.

I do want to point out that this is Memorial Day, not Veterans Day, and while I honor the veterans that fought for our country, today is a day to remember those who did not come home, those who gave the last full measure.
