A Question about M3s and 40MM
« on: May 24, 2010, 11:37:38 PM »
So our town was down and two or three guys were repeatedly running M3s trying to get to town.  I upped a Hurrie IID.

I know little to nothing about strength of ground vehicles and power of guns, so I'm here to ask.  How does an M3 survive a hit from a 40mm?  It just seems like that kind of hit on that vehicle would be devastating no matter where it hit. It happened twice and I saved the film of the second one if it actually is an oddity, otherwise I'm just her to be edumacated.

perhaps it was not the 40mm that hit the m3 but a 303. :salute

Because I don't believe a 303 does this when it hits.

I hit a M3 with 3 75mm rounds, one directly in the radiator grill and the other two on the side on the tracks and the M3 kept cruising.  I just chalked it up to gremlins and got it with the 4th round.

40 mm on the d is AP, unless you hit a vital component it blows right through. Next time use the IIc when m3s are the problem.

Ah, so the Yak 9T might be a better choice for those?  I never knew the 40mm was an AP round, thought they were HE...

Yup but it fires fast and not many rounds... I like the IId because it is good at low speed and you can fire hizookas in banks extending your firing time.

It's much easier to kill a Panzer IV in a Hurri D as to kill a M3, SdKfz, M16 or LVT... :uhoh

The 75mm B-25...HE?  It seems to do well vs. M4's and Pz IV's...
