I love the stacked blocks, they're cheap and great for a number of uses.  You'll have to waterpoof the lower edge/side of the building if you're going to fill the planters and make them raised.

Looks like the planters are on the north side of the building and don't get much sun, make sure you get something that thrives in the shade and climate you have there.  Also keeping in mind the set-it-and-forget-it mentality here with your plant palette, what's the plan for irrigating the planters?  Looks like there might be some for the lawn or planters around the corner you can tap into, and being in the shade most of the time means it won't need much.

well we get more morning sun than after noon but in late after noon, the sun actually comes back onto it because of the shape of the hangar.

but ya all the plants will do fun in our sun condition. as for watering, there wont be any irregation directly inplace but we have a hose connection in the middle bed that they can be watered if they need to be. We tend to get a good amount of rain so water shouldnt be too much of a problem.

was able to do almost all of bed three today until it started to rain. It was 90 out all day so i didnt mind it, but then the rain turned to thunderstorms and i wasnt going to work with lighting right above me lol

I took this about 15min before the rain came.

everything from that bed still needs to be taken out and the handicap parking signs will be replaced and will have metal sign posts instead of those 4in woods posts

does anyone know what beattle this is? ive never seen a stripped one like this around here.

bonus (took this earlier in the day when it was really sunny)

if you guys had heard about the sterman that flipped at National Aiport in DC, it was based at our airport. This plane came in right after the one had landed and flipped. I asked Jack what happened, and just like i thought, the pilot had his foot on the brakes.

Trade my day in the office for yours anyday, lol.  Looking good, love the plane bonus too.  I figured being in the shade and not in a desert climate like I live in the irrigation wouldn't be too huge an issue.  Even though your planters get a little sun sounds like they'd be considered heavy shade.  The plants your using should do fine as long as they need no direct sun and can tollerate a little bit of direct sun (there are some shade friendly plants that can't tollerate the sun at all, and some that need that hour or two of direct sunlight they get in the afternoon/morning).

Too bad they have yet to invent a need for landscape design/architecture and aerospace beyond decorating their hangars and employee parking lots, lol.  A few years ago my office did some landscape design for some new hangars attached to the LM research area at Edwards AFB, only got to see the outside of them though and whatever came taxiing along in and out or around them for obvious reasons.  Other than a F-35 prototype (given the timing I suspect it was one of the first non VTL type) and a couple F-22s for experiments/research I don't think I can legaly describe how cool that brief job that was.

I take this back, what you have is a Horsenettle Beetle which feeds on weeds, nettles and some vegetables such as peppers and tomatoes.

Horsenettle Beetle

Colorado Potato Beetle

The two are so similar, the extra muddy orange strip near the wing edge is the only difference.

The walls are complete!!! i was able to complete the largest, bed 2, wall yesterday in 8.5 hours. But now my mom said about possibly fund raising or getting donations (anyone is more than welcome to donate   :pray ) so i can bring the wall up on more level, so its seen better as the curbs sort of hide the brick until up close. That would be a simple job of stacking them though. I do have to cut three bricks  also now that i think about it to totally finish it...

So next thing to do is to till it and then get dirt. I wont be able to till it until sometime next week as my tiller is broken and we have to order a new fuel tank/system

Here is the finish product as of now:

Looks great !!  :aok one question are the parking bumbers (concrete ones) back far enough to allow for clearence when people nose there tires up to them so they dont hit all your block beds? if that wasnt part of your bid you might want to talk the place into having you reset them, they make a epoxy you spread under them, if you snapped a line 3ft off your block beds that would really protect them, i like your choice of plants btw

No they are not yet. Im planning on moving them out once i get the chance, but i havent yet. I had the intention since the get go to do that, but havent yet and really noticed yesterday that it really needed to be done when i saw the one car practically on the wall. Ours are not secured so wont be a problem in moving them out. I might take them out far enough that it makes a pathway to walk to the doors.

And thanks.

thanks guys... I cant wait to see the final before and after shots. I have the before shots and even now, its a really big difference. Later this week ill be able to go over and till them finally once the part comes in for my tiller. After that it should be a pretty simple job from there out.

By Absolute deadline for this is the end of July as our Aviation Appreciation Day is Aug. 7th.

here is the before and after as of now...
very begining of sping:

after plants came up:

current (before replanting):

well i finally got a tiller (had to rent one) though i didnt pay for it as its my parent's best friend's rental place... but i got bed 1 and 2 tilled and bed three is still full of hastas so im not gonna till it. Ill take them out but im still not gonna till it. It took me 4 hours to till and take out 14 hastas that were in bed 2... finally home relaxing...

no pictures this time. maybe in a few days when i hopefully can get the dirt put in.

it will absolutely be done before the 7th of august as thats when we are having our Aviation Appreciation Day at the airport. If you are in the Western PA area or Eastern Ohio or West Virgina panhandle (or whatever u call that in between PA/OH), you should come to Beaver County airport for the day. We will be serving breakfast, lunch and im pretty sure dinner in our hangar with the food coming from the EAA. Kiddy rides will be available (i might be driving them lol) for the little kids. Planes will be parked everywhere and its just a fun day to get up close to the aircraft and tour our small museum. Also i believe we are having a car cruise and there will be classic cars parked around the airport.

Let me know if any of you are going to try and attend.

Looking great.  You want at least 4' (feet) between the parking stop-blocks and the front of your wall.  This will prevent any auto collisions as well as provide enough room to walk between the beds and the cars.  Maintaining 4' clearance at all times for all paths leading to/from the handicap spots to the front door is also a great idea if you're looking to be very ADA friendly and compliant too (which just FYI, it's frowned on (and in some places straight unlawful/uncompliant) if the handicapped have to travel back into the lot and thus exposing themselves to traffic in the lot before being able to access the building within a certain distance of the front door... so probabley doesn't need to be done here, but if you're going for as many brownie points as possible...).
