Have you actually tried it? Even seeing him give the little tugs on it in the end, I'm still suspicious of faking it. I don't have one to test it on.

I tried it, cut my fingers good on the soda can aluminum and didnt get to the opening of the lock part.

It should work.

All that holds the lock closed is a spring loaded bar that drops into the notch on the lock loop.
Open one up and look in the hole with a flashlight.

The right shim will allow that bar to be pushed back opening the lock.

Really no different than using a credit card to open a door lock.

FYI Locks only keep the honest folks honest. Thieves have always had ways of getting around them.

yeah i never understood why any padlocks even have self latching, makes shimming possible and doesnt add anything at all. use a decent closed shackle deadlocked padlock :aok

If this does work Id imagine the next line of locks will have a wider base as it enters the lock so it overlaps to prevent the tab of the can entering the hole.

To stop kids from breaking into lockers at school we used to take those really big arse batteries and hook wires up to the 6V batteries with wires to the locks through the little holes right beside the locking mechanism. That stopped people from screwing with the lockers.
