Reformatting my hard drive
« on: August 15, 2001, 02:43:00 PM »
Hi Folks,

Well it’s time to reformat the hard drive and install Win98SE. I had been running Win98 1st ed.

When I put this rig together, I loaded the Win98 with the sound card uninstalled until I got all the critical updates from MS. I was wondering if I should remove the sound card during this reformat operation too…. Then install the card after my updates. ?

BTW: Everything backup. I love my new Plexwriter 12x10x32. What use to take hours on my 1x USB CD-RW now takes about 6 mins.

A7V KT133a MOBO
AMD Thunderbird 1 GHz
ATI Radeon 64MB DDR
Acer CD-ROM 52x
Plexwriter 12x10x32
Micron 512MB SDRAM..PC133..CL=2
IBM 75GXP HD 30G
Sound Blaster Live
Antec SX830 Workstation Tower

When I install Windows the only thing I leave in is the video card.  If it's a soundblaster LIVE I recommend installing it as the very last thing in your system.

Thanks bloom!  :)

I saved all the setup notes you posted last time (when I built this rig). Just wanted to check and make sure.

Almost identical setup here but Abit KT7a and Crucial memory  :) - no sweat/problems ever with SB Live though (maybe I just got lucky)...

Watch out for Radeon firing up at max refresh rate and crapping out your monitor though when you install the drivers - it's a nuisance but it happens. (Boot in Safe mode -> change refresh rate if it happens)
