Problem HD5770 Need Help

I installed the XFX HD5770 powered up and Nothing,,,No MOnitors, no keyboard,,computer was on but
no response..I put back the old x800 card and all ok...
I did check and the card needs 450W PS I only have a 300W..I'm going to install a new 450W PS
and see what happens..
If you know of this problem please advise....

You probably need that bigger power supply. Also make sure you have your 6-pin pci-e power cable plugged in for the display card, it will remain blank unless you plug the power cord in.

If that's the min I would go higher and don't skimp on the power supply one of the most important parts of the comp if not the most important. Power is the start of many problems. Always research what you are buying ahead of time.

Thanks all...What are the Certified Power Supplies that AMD recommends?

Antec power supplies are not very good.  They used to be good supplies, but turned to junk a few years ago.  If you insist on getting Antec, be very careful about how they show the loads distributed over the rails.

They will typically show loads that total up to a much higher load than the power supply can handle as they use multiple rails and show the max for each rail.

For instance, they may show 50A for each 12V rail, but 50A is the total combined for all the 12V rails.  It is cheesy marketing at best.

Try an OCZ Modular 500W or 600W PSU. They work well.

order from newegg or tiger direct, you will get them in a couple of days and for the same price as best buy you can get a much better one.

Color me confused... 700W ocz fatality no problem what so ever with my xfx 5770.

Depends on what else is in your system Bronk, you may be pushing the supply a little, or maybe not.  What is the efficiency of the supply?  Is the rating based on dissipated power or supplied power?

That may explain it... I run almost no extras and use a powerd usb for Track IR and x52. Efficiency is advertised at 82%, some reviews I've read say as high as 84%. They do not state if dissipated or supplied.
