Krusty nailed it.

You want those kills and your name in lights, earn it.

I've always been a proponent of this idea but I do understand the arguments against it.    I can see how it could be compared with gamey "powerups",   however it always struck me as more gamey to land, tower out and jump immediately back into a new plane to roar off into battle (esp if I had a pilot wound).   Time compression already occurs in AH (few RL pilots were less than 5 minutes away from major air action; and our fuel burn rate is twice the RL rate I think) so its really just a question of degree of what we're willing to accept.

What I imagine is the nail-biting tension I'd feel landing at a field under attack, trying to taxi my wounded bird to the repair hangar, and then waiting around for the mechanics to scramble over her, replacing punctured oil lines, fitting a replacement elevator, swapping out a damaged gun, etc.

What if each item repaired cost a full minute in the repair hangar, and maybe 10 perk points or so?   Those would be costs to pay and tradeoffs to make, so would that restore a sense of 'earning' the kills?

I think maybe HTC's perspective is the encouragement of bold pilots and flying style over timid ones who pull out of battle at the first nick to run back to the field and get repairs, or who run away from every engagement in which they don't have a clear advantage to preserve their precious kill streak.
'course that already happens now, and repair hangars might become juicy targets at fields...

Still I like to think about this option.

say if you had some kills and wanted more but say you were missing and aileron on elevator you could just go to the repair hanger and wait like 30 seconds and then takeoff again and get more kills

this sounds strikingly familiar.... :headscratch: oh yes
How about a hangar one can roll into and have their plane fixed to reup. Maybe spend a few perk points and several minutes wait to get the mechanics on the job, maybe the amount of time being relative to the amount of damage. There's been several times I've had a great sortie with a couple kills and end up missing an aileron, would be really neat to be able to RTB and spend a perk point or two to get that same sortie rolling again.

an original idea :aok

besides, i consider it a miracle when i land kills, and i dont try to get any more :lol

I've just about read every reply on this post here, and it never seems to level out right. one person says he wants to have a few different things in the game like a repair pad, not a bad idea, yet still remains undecided on doing. the other person wants to keep the game level with gameplay and fun. the next person whats part of it to be historic accurate. may i ask ? how on earth, can these all fit together in a game ? my saying would be "they can't", yet everyone rambles on about what they think will work and what will not.

With all do respect to players and makers of this game, please make your decisions wisely, for one false move or comment, could cause great errors or problems for (fun) (gameplay) and the game itself.

Been here long enough to realize that names in lights are a short term goal.  After a while most
folks get over it and find other ways to validate their gameplay.
