I need a power supply and video card
« on: May 31, 2010, 05:53:56 PM »
I'm running on 420W of power and a Radeon 4350 HD card.  My current MB is a Gigabyte H55M-UD2H with 4 gb of DDR3 with an i3 processor oc to 3.6ghz right now.  I'm looking to spend a total of around $400 or less.  I want this game to max out on all settings.  Can this be done for this amount?  I'm running the game in 1680X1050.

IMO the PSU is up in the air. As long as you don't get a no-name brand you are good...600W-700W range will do you good.

How big is your case? Or which case is it?

Apevia is the case.  I have 3 fans and cpu is water cooled as well.  My side fan is blowing right on the video card now.

Rgr, just make sure you can fit ~10in video card in (the 5850 is about 9.5in)

I am sure others will be along to post their suggestions. The 5770 is cheaper, and runs the game very well. I only start to have problems when I have full shadowing on with max shadow textures. But this ceased when I bought a second 5770 for crossfire. I just found shadowing distracting.

You don't have to spend that much although you can.  $60-90 for a good PSU, 600-750W with about 50-60 amps on the 12V rail(s) and around (slightly over) $200 for a good video card and you should be good to go.

I'd look at Seasonic PSU's and I'm partial to NVidia cards myself although people seem to really like the newest ATI cards.

Visit tomshardware and look through the video card performance charts and the monthly "best cards for the money" article.
