T-34 and Hetzer at FHC
« on: May 31, 2010, 11:48:04 PM »
The Flying Heritage Collection unveiled their new T-34 and Hetzer today. They had a small driving and firing demostration for Memorial Day. They fired 3 88mm FlaKs in addition to the guns on the hetzer and T-34. I was told they were using about 1/4 powder charge with sponge for more effect.

My camera can do short 720p movies. Unfortunately, no autofocus in video mode, but here are some videos I took anyways:
T-34 driving
Kettenkrads and the Hetzer running
88mm FlaK firing

Here's a highlight:

Enjoy!  :)

I saw another T34 film that had huge clouds of grey smoke to get it moving, glad that wasnt typical.

"glad that wasnt typical"

I'm not so sure about that. I think that in cold climate the amount of smoke a tank emits can be staggering.

I've actually seen it happen. Once in army our signals group had a T72 tank crew in same tent and we had an oppotunity to observe the start up procedure in the morning. We were camped in a small valley and at the time they had the tank running the valley seemed full of white haze that the tank was emitting during start-up.

And why is that relevant:

Wiki: The basic T-72 is relatively underpowered, with a 780 hp (580 kW) supercharged version of the basic 500 hp (370 kW) V-12 diesel engine block originally designed for the WWII T-34.

 ;)

I don't have a picture of it, but when the T-34 backed up to its original position, it let out a large cloud of smoke into the crowd.

Oh.
I did know that the T72 had an evolutionary engine from the T34. The other footage I saw basically smoked off a village road when it started.

According to their facebook page, what they really fire is a mixture of black gun powder and flour.
