To determine where the gubment money trickles to............

Don't wanna fill it out?

Don't complain when Uncle Sam thinks that there is a smaller population where you live than what actually EXISTS there and therefore the gubment spends less where you live.

Just one reason.  There are many more.

Carry on.

They could just ask a neighbor

.... he own his house?
how many people live there?

Wow - how intrusive

Don't understand the paranoia over that.. if you send the irs tax info - or your employer does... why in the heck do you think that info isn't already out there?

If you worry about the government having your personal information too late they already have it.  you know that birth certificate, social security card, driver's license, w2 forms, income tax statements, marriage license.....

or you really think the census form is the only thing they need to put all that info together :uhoh.  Fill it out or not, your choice, but its like voting, dont do it and dont complain about anything later.  just one thing, those census people are just regular people trying to make a buck, dont give them any crap, on the other hand watch out for the fake census people that start by asking your social security number, those you call the police.

I don't see the problem of filling out the LETTER THEY MAILED ME.

Seriously.. they sent me a letter saying they were going to mail out a form.  Then they mailed me the form.  Then they mailed me a letter reminding me to send the form back to them (which I already had).  The questions weren't all that private.. just wanted names, ages, races, and occupations of the people living in my household.  It took literally ten seconds to fill out.

In this day of age, I don't see any need for census workers to have to go door-to-door, except in the cases of paranoid people who feel like they shouldn't have to fill out the form.  It's pretty dumb not to if you ask me.  This isn't exactly anything new.  They've been doing it every ten years for... awhile now.

What I find suspicious is when you fill out the form, send it to them, then they call you to verify the information..... *Click*

It's in the Constitution.

An accurate assessment of where people are is very important.  Don't fill out anything about the specifics "who" if you don't want to.  Do fill it out and help them get an accurate head count.

Never got a letter. Never got the census form or the confirmation letter.

The Constitution says, in Article 1, Section 2:

Quote
Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned
among the several States which may be included within
this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which
shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of
free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term
of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of
all other Persons.* The actual Enumeration shall be made
within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress
of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of
ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

*changed by later amendments

However, what I disagree with (not only on the census forms, but every other government form) is the questions about race, religion and ethnicity.  Why does the government need to know all these demographics in order to appoint representation and direct taxes?  Aren't we all supposed to receive fair and equal treatment from the government regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity etc?

Give them the number of persons living there. Race, religion, ethnicity, and the rest are none of their business, and they cannot make you give them that information. They have no right to it, and no legitimate need for it.

The census is there to count.

I responded to the letter, I counted how many males, and age, how many females, and age.

I got a visit, my letter was incomplete.

I said, I'll confirm, males and age, females and age.  Counting completed.

He wasn't satisfied.

I said, want to see how fast I can make a badge like you have?  You are not getting my information.  The information needed is on my tax return.

He said, and this I hoped for, "But Sir, you don't understand, we can't get all of that information because 1) It's not available to us, and 2) Not everyone we need to count files taxes"

Bingo says I, then why do you need to know how much representation they get or how much public service they need?

He left, saying he couldn't answer that.

They asked, I counted, they can leave now.
