need advice on new build
« on: June 01, 2010, 01:02:32 PM »

Gonna start the process of getting my facts straight for a new build..... gonna do it in steps.  I'm asking any and all advice cause I have a lot of respect for this bored and the peep's on it,, been reading it since day 1 of AH.

I have built all my past Machines, starting in  the mid 90's....

   heres what I have now

       AMD 9550 Quad@ 2.2
       MSI K9A2 neo
       BFG 260
       4 gig of ram
       Audigy 2 zs
       RocketFish psu 700w
Apveia Case looks cool but airflow sucks.

I m gonna base my new build off of the AMD 965BE

I would like to overclock. still a toss up on water cooling

I'm gonna buy the case first, looking for a good case, with good airflow that's reasonable priced, and looks good.

  Thanks All <S>

Hello wakes,
The million dollar question is and will always be:
What is your budget?

If you are getting the 965 it seems as though you aren't under too much of a budget strain.

Actually that build you have isn't too bad at all.

FYI

You are aware BFG is pulling out of the video card market?  I know they said they will continue to honor warranties, but do you really want to depend on that?

Skuzzy...... was really thinking of switchin to an ati card.

Gonna buy the case in the next couple hours... then order the processor and motherboard in a week or so...

and with the bugget,, I just wanna be sensible,, i could do a buck, buck and a half for a good case.

I am gonna replace everything.... just in steps,,, case now, CPU mother board, couple weeks,,,,  etc etc...

gonna but the old rig in the new case because this case doesn't cut it.....

and at the tail end I'll make the jump to windows 7...... but i am wondering which version,, 32 bit or 64.... I really don t know the advantages and the disadvantages, so if someone could school me, I'd very much appreciate it

The Tempest EVO is a great case. It's also great for watercooling. If you want to go overboard spending 3 bucks for a case, check out the 800D.

If not, check it out anyway and you'll want it. :P

For ATI video cards, you 'll want to go anywhere from a 5770 -> 5870.

Oh it dropped, was 300 bucks :) It is an extremely nice case, but I agree overkill for the average user.

You will not be disappointed by the NZXT Tempest EVO, or any NZXT product for that matter.

I have this case and I like it, but I can't compare to the Tempest because I don't have one here to say what is better. The HAF Coolermaster case is larger than your standard midsize tower case. The one thing I dont like is there is no dust filters. The front mesh does act somewhat like a filter though. I also run a 200 mm fan on the side, but has to be bought seperatley.

Only Case to get IMO:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146062

Ditto on the case, although the NZXT tempest is solid too.

I'd try it first without a sound card and just use the onboard sound. if you have issues then buy the sound card. I just use the onboard sound and it does fine.

Not too sure on mobo's, but I personally like Gigabyte. That new Crosshair IV looks sweet.  But it's made for Quad Vid Cards.
