Should burst if you land with your brakes already locked............... on concrete...............

Did you know the US Army Aircorp invented anti-lock brakes?

Not sure when though......

And I don't think wheels locked up would cause a burst or rupture.

Maybe not, but it would cause a plane to either flip or ground loop.  Either case would result in a lot of damage to the plane.

Actually, that's a pretty valid point you make.  If the brakes would give then there would be no need an for anti-lock mechanism.  I'm going to troll youtube to see if I can find some pre-anti-lock footage.

So the force of a plane travelling at 100 miles an hour plus the friction of the ground isn't going to overcome the clamping force of the brake pads on a drum/disc?

Physics anyone?

funny is one of those things we shouldnt really worry about.  kinnda like being able to shoot all your guns when flying really close to stall speed, in RL you can only do it once, then your plane falls out of the sky.

you dont want me to ho, dont point your plane at me.

Think of it this way.

Plane is at 100 kts when the wheels touch the pavement.  The plane's center of gravity (cg), if it is a tail dragger, is behind the main gear.

I've included some video of a prop strike and a ground loop.

Here's an example of a ground loop.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAWa9uxtZj4

This is why tail dragger pilots need "happy feet" while bringing planes down.  It's also why I don't have a tail dragger endorsement yet.

The plane just flips forward. It happened all of the time.

Would be neat if you could blow out tires by hitting too hard, though.

You can do that on the real planes.  And that could lead to a ground loop.

I think it was explained in the past by HT himself...
Most people playing the game do not use an analog control for brakes. Meaning either on, or off. If HT set the aircraft's brakes to have actual real life pressure, due to the nature of how they are controled, most of the people landing would flip and destroy their aircraft.

So for sake of gameplay, it was made so the effectiveness of the brakes were to NOT lock up the wheels so as to not introduce that particular nasty problem.

Had a tire fail while landing a 172...  Pucker factor went through the roof.

Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

i watched a cessna 140 have one of the wheel brakes fail on landing and go into a ditch.

So even in RL it gets recorded as a "ditch?"  That is so strange..........   :D
