Alt-S screen shot issue.
« on: June 04, 2010, 11:17:38 PM »
Since the most recent update or two I have had an issue with screen shots.  The screen will freeze, sounds and vox will do a repeat echo, and then I lose video signal to the monitor.  Alt-tab, Alt-F4, ctrl-alt-del have no effect on the system.  A hard reboot is needed to regain the system.

I have experienced this with low and hires settings.  I have removed all films and screen shots from the HTC location.  I do have the latest video drivers for my video card.  I have the latest drivers for everything.  Below is my dxdiag (abbreviated to fit forum):

Are you trying to take a screen shot from a film or when you are on-line?  Not sure if makes a difference though.

On-line or off-line in game.

Try this.  Use the film viewer.  I don't take screen shots from the game itself.  They are always from a film.

From the film viewer,
Set up the picture you want to print.  (Angles, icons off or on, etc, etc)
Hit full screen image.  Now the picture should cover your monitor.
Hit Alt + Print screen.
Open program for paint.  i.e. MSPaint.
Hit Ctl + V.
The image can now be saved into a file or used on-line (photobucket, imageshack, etc. etc.)

Hope this helps.

Yes, this will work.  However, I don't care to film and browse to the action point I wanted to capture.  I think the Alt-S should function.  It is a feature.

I was looking for some input from tech support on this.

We have no control over what happens when we ask the video card to give us a screen print of the current frame buffer.  It sounds to me like something is interfering with the process.  ATI Catalyst Control Center perhaps?

Some anti-virus or file security software?

Thanks Scuzzy.  I needed a direction to proceed in.  I shall now proceed to slap the machine around some more.

Sometimes if you have a lot of screenshots in your AH root folder and take a screenshot you may encounter some freezing that could last a few seconds to a couple of minutes.  Clearing the screenshots out of your AH folder will resolve this issue, if it's what you're experiencing.

Per my opening post, been there and done that already.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I suspect either the ATI CCC is having an issue or it may be a .Net issue.  Off to more fun.

  All is well now.  Uninstalled ATI CCC.  Screen shots now work properly.
