I agree. Although I love Pawn Stars and American Pickers, I'd like to see more History shows. The Dogfights Series was the best they've ever had, imo. I may be a bit biased, though.
History Channel needs to go back to showing actual HISTORY programming again and drop the frelling reality and pseudo-science garbage they air instead. Although Pawn Stars OCCASIONALLY has something of historical significance pop up (the Civil War or whatever cannon was pretty cool).
I do like Pawn Stars. American pickers is OK too, but it's not as much my style. These shows delve into the history of all the "artifacts" they examine, and it's an important corner of the study of history. I like how there's funny antics in Pawn Stars, but they don't let it become the show. It keeps it's focus well. I think of it as more history than reality show.
I assume they stopped dogfights because of cost, and because they wanted to use their airtime for all this cheaper drivel. I loved that show so much. I watched it in Iraq too, the whole thing. There were times, especially in the second season, when I forgot that it was animation. Truly a new standard in CGI. Also a new standard in the presentation of history. Before this, how else could one experience a dogfight besides playing games like we do? It's hard to get the feeling from books unless you've been there.
