Would the GTS250 play this game well with most settings maxed, minus shadowing?

I seriously think it would have to do with how fast the CPU of the computer is, how much RAM the computer has and whether or not the OS is Windows XP (32 bit OS ) or Windows 7 ( 64 bit OS )

and also a determining factor would be how fine tuned the OS is overall ( how many processes is running that should not be running unless absolutely needed )

reason I think like this is from a previous thread where I was replying to gyrene  ( see below, gyrene donated the videocard and some other stuff for the PC build I reference below ):

Then you're getting better peformance than I did with mine. It got replaced by a 250GTS.

heya gyrene,
that PC I was able to build for an AH member in need, with the AH Community member donated parts actually turned out real well

* Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI soctet 939 AMD type MB w/ onboard sound
   (used - donated by Masherbrum )

* (2) PSD2G400K  Signature DDR 2GB PC3200 400MHz CL-3 Non-ECC Unbuffered 184-Pin Kit (2 X 1GB) Dimms  ( 4 Gigs Total )
   ( Used - donated by Masherbrum )

* Samsung DVD/CDRW combo drive
   ( Used - donated by Masherbrum )

* AMD soctet 939 Opteron 185 dual core processor 2.6GHz cpu
   (used - donated by Bear76 )

* COOLER MASTER CK8-8JD2B-0L-GP 80mm CPU Cooler
   (used - donated by maddafinger )

* BFG Tech BFGR650PSU 650W ATX12V V2.0 / EPS 12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply
   ( used - donated by Delirium )

* Antec 1200 Full Tower Case
   ( used - donated by TilDeath )

* XFX PVT95GYDF3 GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
   ( used - donated by gyrene81 )

* HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C HDS721032CLA362 (0A39264) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
   ( new item - donated by TC )

* Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS ......... this is a fresh install with NO TWEAKING DONE TO IT
   ( new item - donated by TC )

2 or 3 other AH members also donated stuff like cables, fans, etc..... but asked to not have their names posted

the build which other AH Community members donated most of the parts, is capable of running Aces High with everything turned up to maximum and all shadows checked in the Advanced graphic settings ingame runs at 2084 shadows using hi-res text package

and the FPS is locked at 75 /74 fps @ 1280x1024 screen res

all this on a PC that is built using 2 to 3 generations old or older type PC parts that had all been previously used in all different PCs

incase someone wanted to compare with

will post a DXDIAG and a few screen shots later on.....

but this "completely donated by the Aces High community" PC parts PC BUILD is outstanding

and scores a modest overall 6.7 ( <---was a typo is actually 6.3 overall some areas are scored higher individually ) on the Windows 7 performance index

also, this particular MB is only able to utilize only 3 Gigs of the memory because of a glitch in this particular Gigabyte Board, which is noted in the Gigabyte forums

Dang TC, that's surprising. That video card didn't work worth a poop in my system running WinXP. I'm very glad to hear the person who has it now is getting good performance out of it.

 :headscratch: I'm wondering if I might get better performance all the way around with Win7. Mght be time for a format and reload, I have a copy of Win7 Enterprise 64bit.

Spikes, I thought you had one of those 5770 video cards?  are you thinking bout switching to one of these "GTS250" cards?

Nah you'll have to kill me to take these two 5770s away from me :)

The GTS250 comes in a package I am thinking about purchasing from someone, for someone who plays AH.
Other specs would be i5 QC 2.66 (possible OC)/4GBDDR3/ASRock P55 mobo.

Dragon , I know you recently built an i5 system as well.

Unfortunately it wasn't used for AH.  Installed a 9800GTX+ in it.

What you have here would run AH just fine.  Without OC, should be able to run full sliders, high res, 1024, detailed, and shadows on self.  Others shadows might be possible depending on how clean the owner keeps the computer.

Any chance you can squeeze an extra 50 bucks and end up with a GTX260 or equivalent?

From what I understand, the GTS250 is the same thing as the 9800GTX+.
I run the 9800GTX+ with a 2.7GHZ C2D, and 4GB of DDR3 ram with Win 7.  Everything maxed out, 1024 textures, 1920X1200 resolution, all sliders set to maximum, and all options on EXCEPT for all shadow options (which is turned off).

I see 60FPS over 90-95% of the time.  I RARELY see less than 55FPS, and I think I've seen it drop below 50FPS just a few times for a split second (during FSO takeoffs).
