Unpatched Adobe Reader and Flash exploits
« on: June 08, 2010, 02:36:09 PM »
More details here, but the executive summary is that a flaw in Acrobat Reader 9 and the current version of Flash puts (nearly) every Windows computer on the internet at risk be being taken over by the bad guys.

Correction, only those computers loaded with those particular programs are in trouble.

That is 5 or 6 in a row for Flash/Reader now.  Seems the bad guys are really targeting those utilities.

Yes but.... ahem.   :headscratch:

Skuzzy, you are - quite literally - the only one I've ever heard of who is fanatical enough to have managed to refuse to run Java, Flash and Adobe products on your Windows systems.  I think a person would have better odds of finding a virgin in a house of ill-repute than a machine that's not at risk.

And yes, it's been a bunch in a row for Adobe - which perversely, is good news.  Microsoft has closed most of the worst of the holes in the OS, so they are targeting the most prolific of the third party software.

<S>

Edit -> P.S. note that for this particular issue, you can remove/rename/restrict access to the authplay.dll to close the hole, per Adobe.

I laughed so hard at this that I may need new underwear. after that I'll probably cry because I have some PCs to administer.

Guess again ghastly!

Although I will let my wifes machine run java at times. Mostly I keep it off of my system.
If I do let it on, it gets crippled in Firefox.

Foxit reader for PDF's works much better, faster than adobe with better controls, options.

Flash, well thats just "flash" who needs it?
