Quick Reversals in the 109
« on: June 10, 2010, 12:15:33 PM »
I'm curious how some pilots are getting what seems to me as a very quick reversal in the 109K4 or any of the 109 plane set, I was in a turn fight with one and I had a better turning plane, but he seemed to get his plane back to guns on me much faster than I could, now I did have my throttle cut back and I was in a Spit16 and even tried my flaps. I also noticed while jockeying for position he went up in a slight vertical to roll back at me in a scissor maneuver, but as I was watching him, his plane seemed to roll and pitch back very very quickly.  :headscratch:

Classic 109 move. The climbing part of the rolling scissor is used to bleed off excess speed. At the top, a neat snap roll stall is done using elevators and hard rudder. This will rapidly reverse the lift vector of the 109 if a smooth 180 degree roll is acheived. The result will often be unpleasant for the con they are fighting, if the 109 pilot can aim.

Two methods to avoid being caught by this move:

1) Stay as fast as possible and do not pull back up into the 109 as they reverse. Stay diving and build at least 800yrds seperation before pulling up and back into the enemy.

2) Get as slow as possible and do not overshoot in the horizontal. As they climb the roll, tuck yourself in behind them at idle power. If you have judged relative speed accurately, you should have no problem saddling up on them if its any 109 vs a spit16.

And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I hate to tell you this but...

Do a search in the "help and training" forum...dont include all the other the other forums. Use the advanced search...at the bottom click the plus button and deselect all the forums accept help and training.

You can also search for posts by me (agent360) and ardy123 about "109 reversals"

You will find full descriptions, films and tons of info about the exact thing you describe.

I even posted a detailed description of how to do the 109 "jack hammer" (my name for it) and how to practice so that you can learn to do it.

It all there but you have to search for it.
