Glad our in-game take off procedure isn't that bad...you'd never get off a vulched field.

Makes me miss Falcon 4 AF's F-16 startup.  Wish I could find that disk.

I dont even know what they do

I don't believe they're modeled in the game at all, maybe taken into account in the equations of how long it takes for the engine to cool down but that would be the most I'd think.

They open/close to allow or restrict air flowing through the cowel and over the engine.  I believe when they're open you generate more drag but your engine cools better due to increased airflow.  Typically they were wide open when the plane is on the ground when more airflow was needed (due to lack of flight speed and the hotter surface temperature on the deck) to keep the engine cool as it idled on the deck.

Fantastic movie! Thank you for sharing! That inspired me for one or two noobish F4U-1A flights!

I was shocked at the climb rate the training movie indicated it would climb...I believe it said, "2000ft per minute at 135 Kts"...vs the game, that seems quick to me....I usually climb out around 180 kts and it takes me a full moon cycle to get the 1A up to 6K.  I might be remembering it wrong.

LMAO, did you notice the narrator say specifically NOT to get into a turn fight with a superior turning plane???  Hey, no one can beeyatch now about the F4U BnZing them...hell, they were directed to do it during the war!!  He said, "Make your pass and get your butt outa there!" lol

Glad you guys enjoyed it.

good watch, thanks!
Taking an enemy on the battlefield is like a hawk taking a bird. Even though it enters into the midst of a thousand of them, it gives no attention to any bird than the one it first marked.
