Nother Question

Anyone know of software that will allow you to answer the telephone if it rings while you are on the net?  I have a work at home friend who needs something that will allow him to fly during slack times without tying up his single telephone line.

thanx

A cable modem works well for me in that regard    :) Call waiting will boot a lot of online games in progress if not turned off (Don't know about AH), and I "think" some  modems are set up to allow for a disconnect in that situation, but I don't know of any dial-up solution that would allow a both to work at the same time.

DSL works great for this. I get to be active on the net and the wife can chat or get calls on the phone. There are no conflicts or slowdowns either.

Thanx for the replys guys.
Maybe I should have given more information.  In northern NM we are lucky to have the phone lines they installed bout WWI. ;)  WE got no cable, no DSL, we DO got satellite, but he can not afford that or a ISDN line at the present.  Reason I asked is cause I can not seem to find anything on the web that would work, but I seem to remember testing a card and software back in the 4800 baud days (I think for creative labs) that had software that would disconnect your internet connection and let you answer the phone if you set up a certain distinctive ring pattern (with the software) for the phone.  I can not find anything like this around the net today?
Even if someone knows where there is a old program of this nature maybe I could rewrite it to function.
Anyway thanks for the answers.

The brand new v.92 modems support call waiting.  The trick is your ISP needs to support it to get the other benefits of v.92.

hehehe Unfortunately this is the most expensive of the 3 options.  He would need to pay for the installation of the line from the nearest connection box to his house.  I kid you not, I was totally flabbergasted to see that he still was still wired with a single twisted pair wrapped in the old cloth tape.  US West was not known as US Worst out here for nuttin.    Qwest has not changed the situation.

Bloom25 I'll look into the v92.

Thanx all

Here's an answer for anyone with dailup. www.callwave.com  its an answering service that will record a msg in .wav form and show it on your task bar so you don't miss any calls while you are online. I think it runs 3 bucks a month.

hehe your dyslexia is showing.  ;)  Seriously we are thinking of a trip to the badlands next spring and I always like to meet other pilots, (wanabe and real) I, sadly, fall into the first category.
