Yep but the upside is they just got them for free...you can buy one this weekend. My oldest has $400 burning a hole in his savings account right now and is torn between a PS3 and the new Xbox. He only plays sports games on his consoles and the first Xbox I got 8-9 years ago finally died about 8 months ago.

Make sure he compares them both as far as online playing, i know with my PS3 i don't have to pay a subscription fee to play on line, but my son does with his XBox live, PS3 has a very nice Bluray player and i don't know if the new Xbox does, PS3 has wireless or Lan connections, again I'm unsure with the Xbox, tell your son goodluck on his decision

Don't know about the Blueray in the new Xbox but it does have wireless built into the thing this time around.

Can't you say something else about it? We or at least I got it the first time you ever wrote that or whoever wrote that in the other Xbox thread...http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,290983.0.html

For sports games (football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse even...which is only available on Xbox Live) are what my teenage son and his friends like. For other games he plays on the PC because....

If he primarily plays consoles for the sports games and likes to play online then the 360 is probably the better choice.

Is your reasoning on that Ack-Ack just because of more titles being available on that platform than the PS3? I am honestly kinda leaning toward the PS3 because of the BD player and the ability of him and his little brother to access content using their PSP's over the PSN. Plus PSN doesn't require a monthly payment like Xbox Live does to allow him to play against his friends.

I heard that PS3 is going to start a payment thing. Apparently, when you pay for however long, any DLC you get will be free as long as you're paying, but you have to still be paying in order to use it. Sounds like a load-a crap, but it might be true.

Xbox live gold membership is a yearly thing, not monthly, as far as I know. I paid GBP35 or so for a year, well worth it imo. And as for which your son should buy, I would suggest an Xbox because the controller is way better suited to sports games than the PS3. Much more sensitive-to-the-touch-triggers and smoother joysticks, in my experience. Not to mention that, IMO, Xbox live is a far superiour platform than PSN.  Another thing to consider is the resolution of the two consoles. As far as I know the PS3 is limited to a max of 780p where as the Xbox delivers a full HD 1080p.

And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

Right now I pay for things like this but ONLY as a reward type thing. He is 13 and is starting to work more and more for money but I want him to be self sufficient on the big purchases in the next couple of years...like car, insurance, fuel, date money, etc...

If XBL is under a $100 a year then no big deal for me to fork it out but for him that $100 could go a long way towards a car payment or other aspect of ownership.

If he is going to primarily play sport games online then the 360 is the better choice because Xbox LIVE! is by far the better online matchmaker than PS3's PSN and more players online.

The PS3 is full supportive of full HD 1080p and 7.1 surround sound. The Xbox is not superior.

It's just a ploy by Activision to help shore of a flagging franchise on the decline, especially after the creators of CoD jumped ship.  Microsoft is looking for ways to try and keep the console market share in the US and Europe, especially with their new "slim" 360 and "Kinect" controller coming out this year.  Microsoft has lost a lot of ground to PS3 these last couple of years.

I don't care what anybody says i've played both 360 and PS and I have to admit PS3is way better. You don't have to pay for online either lol.

Im not in to the console war very much, but when people choose the PS3 for the fact that it costs nothing to play online is pretty bunk.

In my experience Microsoft's Xbox LIVE, is way better than PSN. Its well worth the 50$ a year. When you pay for something it's obviously going to be better.

I had passed on going to the MS press show because I'm going to be at E3 on Thursday and if anything interesting is announced, my co-workers that went would fill me in.  Found out today that everyone that went got a slim 360 from MS.

And how long have you lived out here in So Cal?  Never ever ever turn down free(-ish) access to an E3 event!  *nerd-slap*

And I've been meaning to catch ya on the forums recently Ack-Ack.  Since my internet has been out at my house for about the past week I rented FFXIII, been lovin' it, pass along my appreciation if ya can (I'm probabley gonna buy it, so it'd be one of 8-10 XBox games I've felt worthy of paying full price for, let me know if you folks got any limited release versions available or something similar).
