I have known three and its an occupation that they would say is hazardous if you could ask them.
One was studying the Inuit and died in the arctic circle when a ferry capsized.
Another was studying indigenous people in Papua New Guinea and got eaten by the natives (or so they think).
The third was studying ancient cultures in South America but drug smugglers thought he was CIA and killed him.
I hear Paleontology is much safer!
