No next generation H2H for the subscribers yet?

I have been following the AHII development with high hopes.

How you see it?
Is it too risky and/or not profitable enough?

My two cents?

Why would HTC do it? They would need to devote precious programming resources to create code that allows folks to play head to head without ever paying the monthly dues. Instead they invented the duelling arena where the exact same head to head or 8 v 8 or other combinations can be played by subscribing customers.

It doesn't seem like a good business decision to provide the head to head competition for free.

Totally different actually.  H2H-type play=custom maps, custom settings.  DA=ghey.  HT said that was their next major code work in a thread not long ago, that's prob why jazz is asking.

missed that in the title. Never played H2H so I'm not familiar with it's special benefits over the DA. What would they be?

custom maps and lockable for more intimate encounters

Custom maps.
Custom arena settings including - sky color, time of day allowed (i.e. nighttime? dusk?), tweaking lighting, fuel burn, ack lethality, gun lethality, ammo load, etc, etc
Ability to kick players causing a problem
Ability to reset maps / settings on a whim or when requested by players in game
Ability to set different allowed aircraft

h2h was great for squad training, ability to set damage and ammo loads and winds could allow a squad to spend time on a specific action or event without all the travel time. private and completely adjustable. it was a good feature of aces high.

my memory may be a little fuzzy, but if I remember people were using H2H and changing the settings dramatically, then posting on Youtube about how easy it is to "Hack" Aces High.

As I remember it was more that they actually used self hosted H2H to access code and develop real hacks. This is frowned upon.

Dealing with these problems took way more resources from HTC than the marketing benefits of H2H ever brought in. Most likely for H2H to return, it would be hosted BY HTC so there could be better protections. That's much more of a reworking than just "bringing it back on line."
