Need help testing some things
« on: June 18, 2010, 03:40:29 PM »
Hey guys, we need some help testing some issues that we can't duplicate in house.  Anybody is welcome to run this test version and make sure everything works for them but we are particularly looking for people who've had problems in the earlier patch versions of 2.19.  Specifically, we're looking for people who had the following problems:

1-  Losing the mouse cursor at the windowed main screen when quitting.
2-  Getting stuck hold down keys or joystick buttons like an up view or a fire button.
3-  Any general sound issues in any of the previous versions shipping with the Miles system.

There is also a new sound configuration in the options menu that lets you map different classes of sounds to different devices.  I.E. you can have voice go to your headset and other sounds through your speakers.  This just needs some general testing to make sure it's working as intended on different systems and configurations.

You can run this test version online.  This will not replace your current Aces High installation so if you have a problem with it you can go back to running the regular release.

Instructions:

1-  Download BOTH of these files to your Aces High folder.

http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/htsim8r.exe
http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/thtdlg.res

2-  Run the file htsim8r.exe from your Aces High folder.  Create a shortcut if you want but make sure you run this file out of your Aces High folder.  If you run it from somewhere else it won't work.

3-  Report bugs or if any of the above listed bugs you had before are now absent with this test version.  Please report back to us in this thread.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the mouse cursor problem on my computer at work. I will test it on Monday if we're not busy.
No thank you Turkish, I'm sweet enough.

I would say the 'nurfed' VOX audio quality of the familiar voices and sounds we all are personally familiar with was my only (and the general) issue I had with the Miles system.  Is there an online test arena available so that the VOX audio issues most of us were vocally negative about in the previous implementations can be tested (or any other means available in offline mode to test the received VOX audio quality on our end)?

I'm still testing it, but right off the bat the windows features in the upper right hand corner are cut off and only showing half the buttons (minimize, restore, close).

I am running at 1920x1200 res.

Also, the sound settings are not being saved for me after I change them in AH. I have a X-Fi and switched over to that from the 'primary sound driver'. When I return to the menu, it says 'primary sound driver' again as if I didn't change any settings.

I figured maybe I need to re-log to have the setting changed and the game crashed as I did.

edit: the game crashes whenever I log out from an arena, regardless if I make changes or not.

Also, if I change the sound settings between speakers or headset on the left of the audio options, I lose the functions of all but the one I am selecting.

Lastly, I can't find the individual sound controls for the different sounds in AH. For example, my engine is so loud that I can't hear anything else including my own guns firing.

Del,

I believe that HTC might be moving away from individual sound controls like we have now, to a more simplified setup.

I don't like the sound of that (pun intended).  I love the way we can make certain sounds much quieter.  Maybe having the engine blasting in your ear at 140db is realistic, but not exactly fun.

A big -1 for losing individual sound volume control.

Same troubles.  I got it to work once but it reverted when I tried to change volumes in there.  From the little I tested:  The vox sounds like it always has and the game was able to send game sounds to speakers while vox went to headset, so to being able to do it and HTC working on it means I'm happy. :D

Agreed... I can't play test in actual AH flight because it is so overpowering.

I'll tell you right now i have the button problem.Every time i zoom with a button on my joystick it doesn't do it smoothly it juts in and out in succession and then zooms.

The biggest problem is when i look up...it just kinda stays there and doesnt go back down this is VERY annoying.

Guys reporting major problems be sure to submit a DXDIAG too so HTCs know exactly what settup your using and getting trouble with.  They're asking for help from the community in testing this because they can't reproduce the problems you're experiencing on any in-house settup they have.
