Nvidia driver update question
« on: June 22, 2010, 08:56:34 PM »
Current driver for the 260 is 257.21 released 6-15-10.  I currently am running on 191.07, no idea what the release date is.  I'm just wondering, before I install, if anyone has heard any horror stories about this update.

Thanks

I'll do the update after work, barring any horror stories, and post results.

I updated my Nvidia driver to 8.17.12.5721,,, supposed to be the latest.  Haven't had any problems, just same old rubber bullets that I have always had.  Really didn't see a change.

It will depend on what video card you have.  Older video cards may not get any updates at all, regardless of the version of the driver.  Then again, sometimes older cards will simply get broken by newer drivers as well.

They really only work on newer product updates.  Older cards get left behind.  Oh, just because a computr is new does not mean the video card/chip is new.  ATI 9000 series video chips being shipped today are about 13 years old now.  NVidia 6100 series parts are around 5 years old now.

I'v updated and have no real problems as of yet. 8800 GTS. Just check the list and see if your card is supported.

Updated driver, also noticed that refresh was set to 60, monitor able to do 75.  Set to 75 and running 74 solid in furball.

I noticed that even though my refresh rate is set to 60, I show 59 FPS consistently... I wonder if it's a win7 thing...

So Dragon, NVidia still has the refresh rate bug in the drivers or the monitor INF file has the incorrect setting.

I loaded it. I have the xfx gt275. I don't have any improvements. The stutters are still there with shadows smoothed. Are there any recent threads on properly setting up video in here?

Try reducing the size of the shadow mask texture.  If you set that texture size too large, the video card will constantly have to swap out textures.

My 9600GT recently had a driver hiccup (6.14.11.7474) and I have just loaded 6.14.12.5721 which came out this month.

So far no problems at all. I have been online a couple of times since I installed. Like Dragon, I don't like loading new stuff because of the potential for the bugs so if I come across any, I'll reply here. Hope I don't need to post again  :aok
