AI controlled
« on: June 23, 2010, 01:55:38 AM »
I remember some commotion about HTC working on this, but then decided to back out because of complications.

I wish HTC would pick back up on this, because the more I think about it, the more I think I would enjoy this game. Some times I just want to enjoy flying the aircraft at how it was intended, not at the very limit of its capabilities, and competing against other people will never be so easy. With AI controlled aircraft flying about doing it's own missions, I think it would add an extra feel of the "war", and the thought of never finding a fight will be completely gone.

Questions? Comments? Flames? I'm all ears!

Do you want that offline because I believe we already have it, or online?

We sort of have this offline...but I wouldn't like to see it online..the AI is terribly unskilled, and bails the plane if you so much as scratch the paint.

Well that sounds adjustable.

Online, maybe a special arena.

It also does not obey the laws of physics... The planes move on paths/tracks that are not dictated by the abilities of the plane itself. It's just "move here, move here" rather than 'bank here, pull Gs here".

Meaning 109F drones can easily out-turn 109Fs piloted by the player. Meaning a D3a can loop perfectly over a dozen times over the same point in space at HIGH speed without ever slowing down (had that one happen to me more than once). Meaning it's no fun because the AI is essentially cheating. No historical matchups work when the matchup simply doesn't exist. It's a shell of a plane rather than a working plane.

I'm sure you have film of this from offline missions to back this up?

Even if they did run on tracks, I would be happy with a simple wave of bombers flying from point A to point B.

Some of us have wanted AI enabled in the AvA for a long time.  That way the people who feel like flying historical setups could find a fight (even with AI) anytime of day.

The AI were adjusted quite awhile ago to take more damage before dying.  There are still some issues, but the AI has improved some over time.

If you ever played with the offline missions much you'd know better than to ask.

It's quite self-evident... Try staying in formation with Fw190s when they're flying so slow you have to pop full flaps just to stay with them, yet they have no issues. It's just a direction and a speed, there is no physics for AI planes.

So that is a no... you do not have any evidence to back up the claim.

Why didn't you just say no?

Go play an offline mission. Go on. Climb into a zero, and watch as several P40's out turn you well below their stall speeds. Go on.

The few offline missions I've played seemed to work fine. The only thing buggy I have noticed is that if flying a bomber they will ram you.

You see, he doesn't give a crap about the actual topic, he's just using as an attempt to needle at me.

What he doesn't know (because he never flies them offline, ever, or he'd know this) is the obvious observations.

Must I provide proof that the sky is blue? Must I point out that water is wet? You can tell these things for yourself. Posturing as if you're asking a legitimate question makes you look foolish, in this case. Give it up.
