Removal of little white hit sprite..?

How would it effect gameplay if those little (and sometimes not so little) hit sprites were removed from the game?

I would like to see them done away with, but I'm sure there would be opposition to this. I think it would add to realism, and perhaps could be disabled in AvA or scenarios where realism is more of a priority, much like icons are disabled.

Weren't the bullets tipped with something like magnesium to "flash" like that when a pilot got a hit?

Edit: This is what I was talking about:

The hit sprites DO add to the realism. IMO it would suck without them. I'll search for some old gun footage and show you what I mean.

Hm. I believe our guns use ball ammo, not incendiary. I think what this excerpt is explaining is simply a round that does not ignite it flight, but rather when it makes contact with something...not sure though.

Guncam footage could be insightful, uptown.

That they are. Cartoon guns that fire ball ammunition.

Nope. Didn't quite feel like it.

Taking into consideration the small explosions apparant on the defeated planes, I would like to see our sprites look more like this than the ugly white sprite we currently use. Like small tater hits, I suppose.

I'm not sure (haven't tested it myself) but I believe that's to remove the lighting and special effects of the guns firing themselves.  Not the hit sprites on other planes.

Will have to test it out tomorrow. :)

You definitely miss good old days, when we had HUGE white sprites  :lol
btw, as it was stated before, no sprites is less realistic. There are always some visual effects from bullet hit.

May be scaling them accordingly would be good  :bolt:
