Help with Printed Sources, Please!
« on: June 25, 2010, 06:37:18 PM »
I'm looking for printed sources that give as minute details about the following WWII vehicles:

M4x Sherman
T34x
Tiger

I have plenty of general sources that offer the basics, but nothing that offers the fine details of the particulars.

Thanks!

Books are of greatly varying quality. You can buy a lot of crap. And that's why he's asking for some recommendations. ;)

One book on Tiger you may look for is

Sledgehammers: Strengths and Flaws of Tiger Tank Battalions in World War II
by Christopher W. Wilbeck

It's one of those rare books that's not just a collection of anecdotes to fuel the myth of utter awesomeness...

Exactly, Loosch.  I know there are hundreds of books out there with lots of pictures and general information for leisure reading, but I am looking for a bit more detailed information on the topics.

Thanks!

A friend of mine (yes I know I have few) bought a book at a yard sale called: Tanks and Armored Fighting Vehicles Of WWII by Jim Winchester. I dont know if it's what your looking for, but if you can't find one I would be willing to send you this one if shipping did not cost an arm and a leg.  :aok

BTW: I says it covers vehicles from 1939-1945 Germany, Italy, Japan, US, UK, Canada, Soviet Union and France

I've not read it all yet but this...

Germany's Tiger tanks
VK45.02 to Tiger II: Design, Production & Modifications
By Thomas L. Jentz & Hilary L. Doyle

Seems to be good for the Tiger II.
We shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be.

For the M4 Sherman, there's no better book than "Sherman" by Hunnicutt.  Be warned that this book is out of print and extremely expensive.  But, if you've gotta have all the information, this is the book to get on the Sherman.

I have no idea what book best covers the T-34 series.

For the Tiger, there's no better coverage than the Jentz & Doyle books on the Tigers from Schiffer Publishing.  There's three volumes, the first covers design to Tiger 1, the second, already mentioned covers design of Tiger II through Tiger II and the third volume covers tactics and combat.
