Sound format
« on: June 26, 2010, 12:41:29 PM »
Hi guys
Any help appreciated in advance.

I want to make and install my own sounds for the planes I use most.  Just a few questions. :headscratch:

I set a metronome to 1 beat per sec, recorded the output and installed it as a test sound on a SpitMk1.  Seems the 1 beat per sec is attained when full throttle(joystick) is applied(not WEP).

I have some authentic sounds that I want to use, trouble is, they are from aircraft standing still and idling.  My test, means these recordings have to be manipulated to full throttle speed before they can be installed.  Otherwise they just will not play properly.
I have tried it and the result is poor.
Anyone know the revs while at Idle and at military powerfor a Merlin.  (I am guessing that all the Merlin series of engines will be within a few hundred rpm of each other).   From this  I hope to tune my sound to what I think they should sound like.
I have some sound from passing planes but because of the doppler effect the sound clips are short, thus it is almost unavoidable to hear the loop replaying.(annoying on a long flight).

I also would like to know what format the wave file needs to be.  I know that they are mono but bit rate etc... and if there are any restrictions on the durations of loop length.

One more thing is how to label each gun sound.  In options> preferences> game sounds, the guns are labeled m2 for primary and m2 for secondary.
So if for instance I have a sound of a Browning 303 for a Spit mk1.  Do I label it m2 and put that file in a folder labeled Spit1.  I have seen some sound packs with labels of  30cal and 20mm installed in specific plane sound packs.

I would be grateful for any info on this.
