Runways with numbers ....
« on: June 28, 2010, 09:04:16 AM »
I just think it would be nice to have the numbers at the end of each runway, those that indicate the runway´s headings...

Are you talking about compass headings? Clipboard shows which direction your facing and there is a compass in the cockpit that shows heading.

Yes, the addition of the runway number would be a nice touch.

No, unless you want to count the commercial air fields.

I believe so when it was prudent, but even then they were nothing like what we see now. I don't remember the exact year but it was something like 1944(?) when the numbering scheme started getting standardized on paved airfields in the U.S. and Britain.

Front line military runways were seldom paved the way all airfields in AH are. Concrete and asphalt was not as easily transported as wire mesh, steel planking and burlap. The Luftwaffe barely did much to improve their front line fighter airfields. They had to be highly mobile and ready to move when the lines of battle moved.

Having the runways numbered would be nice for the big airfields but we need a greater variety of airfields overall.

How about (as you suggested) commercial runways, small concrete runways, PSP runways, and plain old dirt runways?

And crushed coral in the Pacific!
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

We had one of those during an FSO once, and i thought it was the coolest dang thing I'd seen in this game. The hangars were made of bamboo and mud. This was definitely my favorite FSO airfield design and wouldn't be a a bad addition to the game.

Yup... I remember seeing them in FSO as well.  I would like to see small airfields look more like front line airfields.  Dirt runways, tents, shacks, sandbags, and a wooden control tower.  Actually, I think there needs to be 3 styles for each base size and type.  3 versions of the small air base, 3 of the medium, 3 of the large, 3 styles of v bases, and 3 styles of ports.  As it is now, everyone knows exactly where all the targets are on the bases.  Spice it up, and make it varied.
