Side switching, a new idea.
« on: June 28, 2010, 11:22:53 AM »
Was in LWB and switched to rooks.  Got bored with NDisles map.  Went to LWO, played for 1/2 hour or so and tried to switch back to nits.  It said I can't switch for another 72 minutes.  I thought it was 1 hour.  Did a search and came up with some really old threads that may not be relevant.  Saw nothing on home page or trainer's page.

almost sounds like your waiting period was combinded between the two arenas.  I like that.  Wish it would go to several weeks, but I know that won't happen. So how about this.

when someone elects to switch sides the choice of whcih side they can go to is something that the system automatically performs.  The O club could be changed for side changing to just a push button.  Instead of selecting a side to switch to, the system just automatically puts the person on the side with the lowest numbers once they push the button.

When signing in a player could either select their default home country or just push a button to automatically be placed on the side of a country with the lowest number of players.  Each player would be able to select a default or home country and changing the home country would require a stay of at least several Months in that country.  If a player elects to change sides to help balance the sides that election is only for that session.  The next time the player signs in he is presented with a choice his default home country or by pushing a button the player is sent to the side with the lowest numbers.  Any player can push the button to select the lower numbered side at any time, with no restriction. But changing your home country has limits.

This limits spying to a degree.  it allows players to switch sides to promote balanced game play with no restrictions and it allows players that have never switched sides to always play for their home country.  Balanced game play could be defined when all sides are within 95% of each other.

Unless of course two countries are more or less ignoring each other while piling on the third.  Outnumbered doesn't automatically mean lowest roster numbers.

Yeah, when every one country starts getting frisky, the other two ignore eachother, and push it back to its jump-off point (V-85 in the compello map. We pushed them back around 5-6 sectors in all direction, and were pushed back to V-85 within 3 days).

Its quite common really, whoever draws the short straw is the one who gets jumped for the tour.

Why limit someone switching sides?  Bad idea.

If you re-read it, you will see that there is never a limit on anyone switching sides to balance numbers. Only limit is on changing home or default country.

Well Ack-Ack, you must admit that some will just go to the country with the most players thinking (sometimes correctly thinking) that they will find easy kills with the hoard.

So?  The current limits is more than enough and doesn't need any adjusting.

Your idea is superfluous in my case.  I logged into LWB and then switched to the low # side.  After switching to LWO I tried to go to the low # side but was prevented by the bug.  Or was it by the Spy Police?  :noid

How do you see my idea as "superfluous"?  as with my idea implementated you would have been able to switch to the lower number side at any time.

What if your squad switched to the lower numbered side earlier to balance the arena and now it's the high number side?

like others have said, the lowest number side does not guarantee that you get a good fight, I have seen plenty of times were the highest number in an arena was the one getting horded, so at that point i would switch the the side with the highest numbers to fight that hord.

your idea would not allow me to do this.

It is superfluous because (were it not for the coding bug) I did switch to the low # side.

Unless all three country numbers are close, there is always a low number side.  That low number side will be that way for the hour (usually many hours) that it would take to change sides per the current code.  The numbers don't swing drastically in less than an hour.  As I said, superfluous.

If I was in my squads default country the squad could log out and back in to the default country.

That's not correct.  If you wanted to you could change your default country.

You seem to be misunderstanding me; I'm not supporting the idea, I'm just saying that there is a legitimate (if insignificant) reason for this idea.
