things go better with .. DirectX 8.1 ??
« on: November 22, 2001, 10:10:00 AM »
is it really an improvement ??

this is what the M$ site says :

"The latest version of DirectX offers updated graphics features, faster frame rates, and improved support for massively multi-player games."

any experiences here, good or bad ?

I don't really know how it helps framerates, but I was getting occassional stuttering in Aces High and 8.1 seems to have fixed that.  I also had another game that was unplayable because of lockups that 8.1 also fixed.

I haven't heard any complaints about it yet.

YMMV but I've lost 250 3DMarks by going from 8.1RC2 to the final release :(

From what I've seen and read 8.1 is more stable but a tiny bit slower.  As always, if everything is working with what you have, don't screw with it.  If you are having problems, give 8.1 a shot and maybe it will fix your problems.

FWIW, I got a jump of 7-10 frames when I went from DX 7.whatever to DX 8.1.

This after I had lost about the same amount when the new AH update came out.

YMMV.

BTW, no stability probs at all with 8.1
