262, yes, spit 16, yes.  Pony? no. I'm sorry, but its not as uber that. I mean the La-7 has an ENY of 8, and its faster and hits harder. Feels a bit more nimble at med speed too.
It is about the numbers.  The P-51D has more impact on the MA than either the Spitfire Mk XVI or La-7.

P-51D has more impact because its used more. So does the most numerous planes have lower ENY's? Seems ENY should be based on preformance, rather than usage.

It's all of it to some degree. How good, how many (often a direct fumction of "how good"), and how they are beign used.

how many (often a direct function of "how good").

Yes, but not always. I find the 190A5 to be the most deadly. When flying one, I killed spit 16 without taking a hit (he was chasing me), but I was attacked by a 190A5 flown by the same pilot, and for the life of me I couldn't shake him.

Yes, but not always.

Very true, and that's why I said "often" :)

Now here you have to discern between objective & subjective judgements. What one is feeling to be most deadly and what actually is by raw performance may be two different things. A Spit 16 is way superior to a 190A-5 on paper, but more often than not, the 16 is lown by a sub-average player in  the MA and the A-5 by a vet.

It is futile to try and determine what formula HTC uses to put what aircraft where in the ENY scale.  Same goes for which aircraft have a perk price applied and those that do not.

One could safely, I would think, assume that usage of an aircraft has little bearing as to the ENY score and/or perk price applied to it.  If that was the case, the Spit 14 would not be perked and the Spit 16 would be.

I mentioned the "LESS" than 5 ENY applied to the aircraft I mentioned simply because of their current ENY ranking.  Mind you, I'm frankly a bit confused, like many AH players, at how the ENY scale and the perking of planes is formulated (I bet there isnt one, just a glance or two plane performance abilities and actual game play stats).

Im glad to see the P51D is finally a 5, and not an 8.  Name an aircraft that is as versatile as the P51D?  It is amongst the fastest at all altitudes, it can carry 2900lbs of ord, and still has plenty of ammo and firepower in the 6/.50 cals.  Dont forget generous climb rates, a dive ability second only to the Thunderbolts, plenty of maneuverability, great pilot visibility, and the ability to soak of a good amount of damage.

Believe it or not some people cant fly any spit, they're used to hit and running and think the spit will do the same  :joystick:.

You're right, Spits are really hard to fly.  :)

Fly a MK IX spit like a 190D and see how far it gets you.

You mean bounce planes involved in a turn fight and then zoom back up to a perch?

Don't forget that the P51D can out last an La in the air by a maximum of 40-60 minutes and a Spittie by a good margin too. That and that a Spit16 and a P51D have the same engine and a P51D can also in many circumstances out fly both if properly flown...

Regarding the original post....it gets even worse--say....Rooks 180...Bish 135, Nits 120. Rooks have eny...say...13. But ALL the Nits and ALL the Bish are hitting Rooks on either front, with nary a tank battle tween bish/nits. NOW, Rooks getting arse handed to them, and they can't have any uber planes. (This occasionally happens to Bish too, which is much more enjoyable)
