Any one using a Android phone?
« on: July 04, 2010, 04:05:49 AM »
I just got my Incredible and I'm wondering what apps are conciderd a must by everyone.  So far I love the phone.  My only concern is with battery life, but I'm sure I  can work around it.

My girlfriend has the motorola droid and she really likes it.  She uses an app called "taskiller" and it can shutdown all the apps running in the background and help your battery life.

Shazam (Listens and tell you what a song is on the radio)
Urban Spoon (Great for finding places to eat when traveling)
Google Sky (Earth Science Teacher)
Taskiller (Very Important - as vati said)

Love my incredible, hope you enjoy yours.

Yep, I got taskkiller and shazam, also picked up bubble, volume control, Barcode scanner and yellowbook.   Does it take a special app for street view or did I just miss something in Google maps?

Ive had my Incredible for about 6 weeks now.  Love it.  Battery life ......  lucky to get 12 hours out of a charge but it does a lot of things.  As far as apps go, for me I like, in no certain order, Pandora, Barcode Scanner, Amazon and Ebay mobile apps, Google earth, weather and radar apps, business calculators, audiobooks and the timers, alarm clocks, and stopwatch stuff.

One of my favorite things is the voice to text and voice searches.  I bought a couple extra 12v chargers on amazon for $2.49 cents shipped so I could leave a charger in a couple different vehicles.

I've got a pretty similar list to Rondar.  I do enjoy my Scanner Radio though, it hooks up to RadioReference.com and luckily my community is listed on the site.  Just yesterday we saw some abulances on the road and I was able to connect to the channel and find out where and what was going on.  I have a Stock App that links with my Google Account and tracks my stocks.  Google shopper allows you to scan a bar code AND take a picture of something like a book cover and do a search for it.  I've got TV.com, which I haven't used much yet, just to see if it works.  Pandora is a good one .  Some "fun" ones are Metal Detector and Google Goggles (it's suppose to be a tool but it's just kind of fun).

Folks, play nice.

How's the Droid? Looking at either that or an LG Ally...Android is what I want...my phone right now (env touch) does not work in a sense that I can't hear anyone when I call them or they call me.

A useful one for me is any battery status display.  I don't remember exactly which one I use but it will show approximately how long you have using certain apps (such as 'Internet 5h:36m - Idle 56h:45m - Whatever game 3h:43m' and so on).  Most will also come with a taskbar display or widget display for battery life remaining in 10% increments.  Only had the phone a little while (old tracphone died so went with this, only 150$ and 20/month :D ) so I haven't had time to get many, but for the most part the "must haves" are a personal opinion per person. :)

Another useful can be DroidLight.  It uses the Cameras LED as a flashlight.

Im waiting little less than a month for this to come out on ATT.

This is good thread though, now I know what to go download once I get it.   :D

I currently have the Tilt by ATT which uses windows mobile but it seems that windows mobile is putting up its last stand with their fight with HTC to keep producing windows mobile phones.  Doubtful that the windows mobile store can keep up with android's or apple's and it seems that most apps are charged for on windows mobile.
