Changed my video card, no skins
« on: July 05, 2010, 08:47:12 AM »
Hello everyone a few days ago I changed my video card, went from a geforce something (don't remember the model) with 128 mb to a geforce 5500 with 256 mb. The game itself looks better. I know that I can't go to 100% but in generall is much better. I have two mayor problems. The most important is the skins in other planes. My own skin looks great, but other plane's skins don't exist. They all look white. Any ideas?

On the other hand, not so important but it would look like cool, when I enable shadows my whole plane looks like white also. I can't confirm on objects, I was at 20 k at that moment so It was quite hard to see the buildings but If I must, ill check that out.

Thx for the ideas ...

The shadows take a LOT of power to run. If you think your card might be on the weaker side that may be the trouble. Try turning down the shadows and then check again. You may have the turn everything down and then add things one at a time to see how hard you can push your stuff to find that point where ist playable with the most eye candy you can run.

I actually disabled the shadows right after my plane was all white. Is any set up for the shadows at the video settings? By video setting I mean the one at the main menu.

My test started by seting up the video the same way it was with the old card and I had the same problem.

You should not be trying to run shadow textures on that video card. It doesn't have the gpu or memory power.

If you can run bump map and detailed terrain with that video card at 1280x800, that's doing very good.

Check your in game graphics settings and see if "disable other plane skins" has a check mark by it. It probably isn't but you didn't mention either way.

When you swapped out video cards, did you go back through all of your video settings from the main splash screen to the in game settings? And did you do a full removal of the old video card drivers before putting the new one in?

Im running at 1024 X 768 (I think, don't remember very well but it was more or less that). I can't run detailed terrain, I can ran detailed water.

The "disable other plane skins" is not checked

I did go back through all my video settings from the main splash screen but I didn't remove my old video card drivers before putting the new one in. Why? Shouldnt the OS do that?

It really sounds like your video card doesn't have the resources. Try turning off detailed water and just run bump map terrain, then disable other player skins.

No the OS does not remove old drivers, it either caches them or it tries to over write them. It's always a good practice to remove the old drivers, shut down, replace the video card, then turn the system on and install the new drivers.

I disabled other planes skins and works better. By better I mean, less than a sec the skin is white, then it loads the default skin.

I guess I will let it this way, Its good enought for playing :)

Thx
