If anybody knows anything about Fraps please help me on this, why does it lag when I try to make a movie during a flight?

FRAPS uses up quite a bit of resources to produce its files.

Your better off filming the flight with the AH film set-up, and then using FRAPS to capture from the film.

From the results I have seen Skuzzy and Fugitive are more than right. Even with the fastest of everything hardware wise you will get a really strong hit when FRAPS is kicked on.

I have not tried it in game in a good while, but i have noticed that when using it with my films,, it really takes a big hit if you have icons on! it skips and drags a good bit with them on and runs almost smooth with them off!

just an FYI!

that's done by recording the flight in AH with alt-r, and then you can play that film in the AH film viewer and capture with fraps from there.

When I use Fraps in-game, I force the FPS from my normal 60 down to 30; that helps a lot.  You could also try recording half-size as well.  I would also suggest having a dedicated hard drive just for recording the raw footage, although it probably isn't necessary unless you have a RAID array (I do) and recording to a RAID sux.

But, as has been said, it takes a lot of system resources and CPU cycles to do its thing.

I was going to add that you should capture at 30 FPS to help, but Imadot beat me to it.

The latest version of FRAPS doesn't hog as many resources as previous versions but I personally prefer Camtasia as it's far more robust than FRAPS.

Wait a minute... Camtasia? For recording a video game? I guess I have spent more for game hardware but you have to do something else with this software to make it worthwhile... right?  :huh

Since I use Camtasia at work to create training videos for our operation tools or to capture video from our game to make trailers, I managed to snag a free license for myself to use at home.
