How about a TRUCE for a couple of days Guys?
« on: May 17, 2000, 11:51:00 AM »
So how about it?

Could we please call a truce for at least till after the weekend?

I understand you guys that want a HA/Icon free arena. You've made your point. You don't have to start 6 threads per hour on this BBS on the subject. If anything, the incessant screaming and gnashing of teeth of the past few days, just starts turning people against you after you continually beat the subject to death. Let it go for a few days and see how HTC responds to your suggestions.

And the whole stupid F4U-1C/Hispano Cannon subject?

*barf*

Enough already.

So can we call a cease fire?   Please?

Honestly, Vermillion, I cannot see how this is offensive to you or anyone. Maybe I am the insensitive clod my wife makes me out to be.

I thought it was great to see the positive enthusiasm generated after the past week's terrible ordeal. YMMV.

Ok Verm,
But this whole sheep issue had better get resolved sooner or later......(and yes that herd marching in formation on the field scares the hell out of me with or w/out hispanos and icons!).

It's just plain weird! and even possibly goes against the laws of nature!

I've always tried to refer to this at least  once a month for a refresher, helps me get by...

- Manage in good times for bad times.

- Define your own targets.  Don't settle for conventional standards: create your own.

- Keep things simple.  Streamline your systems and your life.

- Bigger isn't always better.  Don't confuse market share with profitability.

- At the peak of success, look for things you can do even better.

- Be humble: success is hardly ever all your own doing and rarely irreversible.

- Live within your budget.

- Hire people with a sense of humor.

- Quit pretending.  Give yourself the freedom to be yourself.

- Train for skill.  Hire for spirit, spunk, and enthusiasm.

-Treat family members as best friends; don't take them for granted.

- Do whatever it takes.  Remember, there is very little traffic in the extra mile.

- Define your own standard of professionalism.

- Treat everyone with kindness and equal respect; you never know whom you're talking to.

- Think like an owner-about your job and your
life.  Owners focus on results regardless of who's watching.

- Don't act like a victim.  Believe you can make a difference in everything you do.

- Put your trust in others.  It tells them they are trustworthy and they will act accordingly.

- Show your people what you think they're worth.

- Negotiate with an abundance mentality.

- Make your organizational and personal mission, vision, and values clear--then hold the reins loosely.

- Practice the Golden Rule.  Do what you expect and want others to do.

- Take on a childlike curiosity.  Seek to learn something from everyone.

- Develop a genuine interest in the knowledge of others: ask to learn, listen to learn, watch to learn.

- Train yourself to look beyond what you see.

- Create a "Cutting Edge" program of your own.  Find ways to understand other people's jobs.

- Make information interesting, meaningful, and relevant to everyone.  Show everyone what's in it for them.

- Give people more responsibility to develop their strengths and grow.

- Blaze new trails.  Don't rest on others'

- Ask yourself how you can do it before you ask others how it's been done.

- Become a "risk doctor": help people recover from mistakes by accepting, encouraging, and laughing.

- Stand behind your commitments and those of your people.

- Own mistakes, share mistakes, learn from mistakes, and move on.

- Play to win!

- Make your life and work adventurous.

- Align systems, policies, and practices with your values.

- Measure, reward, and recognize people who protect and promote the culture.

- Do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Examine your checkbook and your calendar periodically to see if the way you spend your money and your time is consistent with what you value.

- Equip people to make decisions by clearly defining the culture.

- Memorialize and display your fondest memories.  Make pictures of people your artwork.

- Make the vision the boss.

- Develop a sincere interest in every family member.

- Do what you value:  practice what you preach, walk the talk.

- Become a storyteller for your company and your family.

- Say "Thank you" often.

- Always celebrate people from the heart.

- Make heroes and heroines of employees who glorify your company's values.

- Find people who serve behind the scenes and celebrate their contributions.

- Create a celebration signature--balloons, photos, trophies.

- Celebrate at work like you do at home.

- Work in play clothes!

- Be the first to find humor in tense moments.

- Try to make someone smile or laugh every morning and every night.

- Laugh at yourself at least once a day!

-Lighten up: don't take yourself so seriously.  Associate with fun people.  Identify six ways you can lighten up, then work on them for six months.

- Show love more often.

- Make love a decision, not just a feeling; then stick to it.

- Recognize other people's need for love--and your own.

- Don't be afraid to be vulnerable and express your needs.  Love often insists on vulnerability.

- Life is short: forgive and forget!

- Love people by speaking the truth in loving ways.

- Be gracious. Polish your politeness.

- Don't withhold love when you disapprove of others.  Don't view others' disapproval as holding back love. Show your gratitude to the community for supporting your success.

- Give more than your money. Give your time, heart, soul.

- Make serving the community a team-building event for your employees.

- Love not to get, but to give.  Let love be the motivator.

- Volunteer for the greater good and become better for it.

Arena seems as fun as ever to me. Lets get 200 players online on saterday to vote with our FEET....
Then all 200 can switch to SA and play without Icons for an hour...
That will be fun too.

Hi Vermillion....

I'm sorry if you feel it somehow takes away from or threatens what we already have here. ;(

I've never viewed it that way, but rather simply separating Church and State to possibly develop more exciting options for all of us.  It wasn't my intent to create divisiveness within the AH community, as I've never felt that having both an MA and HA were mutually exclusive.  The bonus was, it doesn't require any major change to what HTC are doing in their development timetable.  In other words, other than granting some CM privileges, it doesn't suck up their current resources.

I don't understand how you perceive this as some sort of "war" between factions that requires a truce?  It's a poor metaphor for what is simply a group of people wanting a slightly different usage of the same service, striving to increase their enjoyment of a great product with minimal fuss and impact on the rest.  A better analogy would be several species living together in one environment, but not cohabiting the same den, as some species do eat their young.

But having said that, I do have enough regard for you and the AH community at large to let it die.  I do apologize if I've offended you, or anyone on here.  My only defense would be that I am used to an intense daily routine, within a highly dynamic merger & acquisition environment, where a lot is communicated without overwhelming the participants.  My partners and I have a philosophy which I tried to phrase into a meaningful Aces High metaphor while closing out another thread.  To say it again here, "it takes provocative dialog combined with a healthy obligation to dissent that creates profound change.  Anyone who views that as whining has more in common with the sheep in Aces High than just the graphics. One can express adversarial views without being deliberately vague, personally insulting or combative."  Unfortunately, to handle this kind of interaction requires very secure egos and relationships that need to be more real life face to face interactions, than one can develop with purely text on a BSS such as this.  Perhaps I have been out of line by confusing and mixing the two worlds together.

In my messages, I tended to focus on HTC's marketing and infrastructure changes that would expand the current user base, create some product diversity and maximize revenue options with a minimal cost.  In my opinion, this will be the key to their success or failure and not some minutia argument over the F4Uc. On that subject you and I both agree and I don't think you've ever seen me crawling around feeding those discussions.

On that note, I'll get back to my own business, rather than worry about someone elses.

Thanks for letting me know that I've over stepped my bounds of what the community is looking for.  Most people wouldn't have the courage to say it. <salute>

Regards
Badger

Badger, don't take it that way

I am the first person to say that each person should have free expression to bring up ideas and to voice their concerns.

My only point is look at the number of posts in the past week on the F4U-1C/Hispano's issue, and the icon/HA issue. Look at how many NEW threads on these issues were started today alone.

Its just that after a while the middle ground guys, start to feel like they are being beaten about the head and shoulders over the issue, to sway us to whichever side. After a while, it becomes very unpleasent and starts to polarize the community, to the point that it doesnt' matter what the issue is, its who's on the other side.

And its getting to the point that people are starting to slander one another of imagined offenses. I don't like it when it gets personal.

Thats the way (IMO) that AGW has gotten over the past year or so, and I think it degrades the community.

So thats why I am asking for a truce. I am not saying either side in either issue is correct. I'm just asking for a cooling off period.

We have heard all the arguements, give us time to think about them.

Again... I'm just asking for a cooling off period.

hehehe...Vermillion.....I didn't take it the wrong way....

On the contrary, I think you were right on the mark.

You put some cold perspective to my heated passion and I really do need to run a business that can make money, not fret over HTC as much as I have been.  I have a tendency to get involved heavily and try to fix things, that perhaps others don't perceive are even broken.  Ever know an alcoholic?  Ever try to help one?  I have and it simply doesn't work until they stand up at the meeting and say "I am an alcoholic and I have a problem."

If you go to the CON next October, I'll introduce you to my Mrs. Badger, whom I bringing along because she's a real pilot as well, plus I think she'll enjoy it.  She'll tell you that I don't suffer from "stress", but I'm definitely a carrier.

Thanks again....

Regards,
Badger
