no radio/text/check6 while in chute
« on: July 11, 2010, 04:19:10 AM »
prompted by a recent discussion about bailed pilots being used as FACs ...

radios were fitted to aircraft, not carried by pilots so once you bail you should lose the ability to use radio/text/check6 until you are in the tower again.

Actually this would remove the last reason to ever shoot anyone in a chute.

And for that reason I'd agree with it.

Not that some wouldn't use TS or Vent to get around it.

really, WWII pilots had portable radios? what radios did they use?  :headscratch:

I trained on a larkspur A41 field set which was heavy and bulky, and that was a '50s design. find it hard to believe there was something way smaller and lighter with better range available in the '30s/'40s ...

If you're thinking about the BC-611 portable handset, that was U.S. infantry issued only, and it had a short range.

Otherwise things like this would have to be lugged around.

Everyone knows they had iPhones back then.  They just kept the technology a secret until they sold it to Jobs.
